Do you know what ICU Syndrome is? When a patient has spent a week or two in an Intensive Care Unit, conscious, they get fussed over endlessly. They have never in their life experienced so much attention from so many people. It harkens back to being a normal narcissistic baby, fussed over by mother and family. This is NORMAL for a BABY and small child.
When an adult demands to be the center of attention, we call it “pathological narcissism.”
So, when the patient is transferred from ICU to a “normal ward”, like 5G at Royal Perth Hospital where I worked – Orthopedics and trauma – we are often warned the patient is suffering from entitled brat syndrome. Otherwise known as “ICU Syndrome”. And here we are…

I spent 3 years as a Nursing Student and 41/2 years as a Comprehensive Registered Nurse. Guess who I was surrounded by? Women. And the things I heard – sexually explicit – come out of their mouths on a daily basis would make a coal miner blush.
I have had R.N’s at work come straight up and ask…“Hey! You wanna fuck?” That was King Edward memorial Hospital for women – Maternity. I was on my Maternity rotation as a student.
