Oprah’s Interview Causes Waves; Royals Like Green Deal, Not Brown Baby BoyMarch 8 (EIRNS)—Last night, Oprah Winfrey interviewed Prince Harry and his wife, American Meghan Markle, on their lives with the British Royal Family. Widely aired in the U.S. and Europe, it will be shown for the first time tonight in Britain. More than 17 million viewers watched Oprah’s two-hour sit-down with Meghan, Harry and their baby son Archie Mountbatten-Windsor. It was widely covered in European and U.S. press. The couple revealed how Markle was treated by “The Firm,” the pejorative name for Buckingham Palace.Markle told Oprah Winfrey that “the Palace” royals were concerned about how dark her baby was going to be, based on her mixed parentage. Harry confirmed there “were conversations” on this which shocked him and that he could never reveal whom he had them with. Palace staff first took Markle’s passport, keys and driving license. She said she became suicidal, the Independent reported. When she approached senior officials to get help, she was told it would not be “good optics” and she was “not a Palace employee,” so couldn’t receive any support services. Markle said she reached out to a friend of Princess Diana’s to talk to.Harry told the Independent on CBS YouTube, that after seeing his wife’s distress, “I had no idea what to do…. I wanted to be there for her.” Oprah asked Harry if he had talked to the Royal Family about Meghan’s mental health situation, and he replied, “No, that was not a conversation that would be had. I guess I was ashamed of admitting it to them…. It is a very trapping environment they are stuck in. The family has a mentality of, ‘This is how it is, you can’t change it; we’ve all been through it.’ But the race element made it different, and ‘triggered conversations with my family and palace staff where I said, “This is not going to end well.”’ Meghan was also told that her son would never get police protection because of how dark he was.Harry said that it “hurts” that his family never spoke out publicly in support of Meghan, but he is “acutely aware of how scared they are of the tabloids turning on them.” Prince Harry had to compose himself before he could even speak of Prince Charles, and told Winfrey that his father does not return his calls. Of his relationship with his older brother, Prince William: “There’s a lot of space there.”When Archie was born in 2019, he was given the less regal name Master Archie Mountbatten-Windsor. According to (of course, arranged) reports at the time, it was presumed that Meghan and Harry didn’t care about him being a prince because they wanted him to have a more normal childhood without the burden of being royalty.
