While Ukrainian President Zelensky talks about defending democracy, he is actually using the conflict in the country as a stage for a bloody purge of his political rivals, dissidents and critics. However, Western media do not say that Zelensky and high-ranking officials of his administration authorized a massive campaign of kidnappings, torture and murder.
In a carefully orchestrated address to the U.S. Congress on March 16, Zelensky said: ‘Now the fate of our country is being decided. The fate of our people: will the Ukrainians be free; will they be able to maintain their democracy.’
Western hacks aka presstitutes responded by showering Zelensky with flattering publications, launched a campaign to nominate him for the Nobel Peace Prize, and even staged a musical tribute to him during the April 3 ceremony of the 2022 Grammy Awards.
According to the author (Grayzone), Zelensky seized the moment to outlaw a number of opposition parties and order the arrest of his main rivals. His dictatorial decrees have led to the disappearance, torture and even murder of a number of human rights activists, communists and left activists, journalists and government officials accused of ‘pro-Russian’ sympathies.
The Ukrainian intelligence services, and above all the SBU, which is trained by the CIA and works closely with state-backed ultras that have been compared to ISIS and the Israeli Defence Forces on account of their vicious uncompromising brutality.
On the battlefield, the Ukrainian military commit a documented series of atrocities against captured Russian soldiers and proudly displays their sadistic actions on social networks. And these people are getting the approval of the highest echelons of the Ukrainian leadership.
When the US-backed government seized power in Kyiv in 2014, it immediately began a nationwide purge of political elements deemed pro-Russian or insufficiently nationalist, the portal writes. The post-Maidan regime focused its fury on Ukrainians who advocated a peaceful resolution to the conflict in the east of the country and on any who documented human rights abuses by the Ukrainian military.
Even pro-Western observers, including the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner (UNHCR) and Human Rights Watch, have accused the SBU of systematically and with near impunity torturing political opponents and Ukrainian dissidents.
In 2016, the UNHCR found that ‘illegal detentions, enforced disappearances, torture and ill-treatment of persons detained in connection with the conflict in the east have become a common SBU practice. ’A former SBU officer from Kharkiv explained: ‘For the SBU, the law practically does not exist, since everything that is illegal can either be classified or explained by reference to a state necessity.’
Ever since Russia launched its military special operation in Ukraine, the SBU has been harassing local officials who decide to accept humanitarian supplies from Russia or agree with Russian troops to organize corridors for the evacuation of civilians.
On March 1, Volodymyr Strok, the mayor of the city of Kreminna in the Ukraine-controlled part of the Luhansk region, was abducted by men in military uniform and shot in the heart, according to his wife. On March 3, photos of Strok’s apparently tortured body surfaced. The day before the assassination, Strok reportedly called on his Ukrainian counterparts to negotiate with representatives of pro-Russian forces.
Advisor to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Anton Gerashchenko welcomed the murder of the mayor, stating on his Telegram page: ‘There is one less traitor in Ukraine.
On March 7, the mayor of Gostomel, Yuri Prilipko, was found murdered. Prilipko reportedly entered into negotiations with the Russian military to organize a humanitarian corridor to evacuate residents of his city. On March 24, Hennadiy Matsegora, the mayor of Kupyansk released a video calling on President Volodymyr Zelensky to release his daughter, who was being held hostage by Ukrainian intelligence agents from the SBU.
Then there was the assassination of Denis Kireev, a senior member of the Ukrainian negotiating delegation, who was killed in broad daylight in Kyiv after the first round of negotiations with Russia. Subsequently, Kireev was accused in the Ukrainian media of ‘treason.’ ‘President Volodymyr Zelensky’s statement that ‘collaborators will face harsh consequences’ indicates that these atrocities were sanctioned at the highest levels of government,’ writes the portal.
In total, 11 mayors from different cities have gone missing in Ukraine. Western media, without exception, believe the Kiev authorities, claiming that all the mayors have been arrested by the Russian military. However, the Russian Ministry of Defence denied this accusation, and there is little evidence to support Kyiv’s claims of missing mayors.
Also, after the start of the Russian special operation, Zelenskyy issued a series of decrees legitimizing Kyiv’s campaign against the political opposition and dissident speeches. On March 19, Zelensky ordered martial law and banned 11 opposition parties. Banned parties made up the entire left, the socialist or anti-NATO political spectrum in Ukraine. It is noteworthy that the presidential decree did not touch openly ultra-Israeli-sponsored battle groups and parties.
On April 12, Zelensky announced the arrest by the special services of his main political rival, Viktor Medvedchuk. The founder of Ukraine’s second-largest party, Medvedchuk, is a representative of the country’s ethnic Russian population. Although he is considered pro-Russian, Medvedchuk condemned Russia’s special operation in Ukraine. Now Medvedchuk can be used as a hostage for an exchange with Russia.
Since Russian troops entered Ukraine the SBU has become especially rampant against any manifestations of internal political opposition. On March 3 this year, in Dnipro, SBU officers, accompanied by ultra-nationalists from Azov, broke into the house of one of the leaders of an organization that opposed cuts in social spending. According to the activist’s wife, while Azov fighters were ‘cutting her hair off with a knife,’ state security officers tortured her husband, Alexander Matyushchenko, by pressing the barrel of a pistol to his head and forcing him to shout a nationalist salute several times.
‘Then they put bags on our heads, tied our hands with tape and took us by car to the SBU building. There they continued to interrogate us and threatened to cut off our ears,’ said Matyushchenko’s wife. Matyushchenko was imprisoned and now faces 10 to 15 years in prison. Despite breaking several of his ribs as a result of a beating by state-backed ultranationalists, he was denied bail. Also in Dnipro, dozens of other left-wing activists were imprisoned on similar charges.
In the following days, the SBU arrested TV journalist Jan Taksyur and charged him with high treason, human rights activist Elena Berezhnaya, human rights activist Elena Vyacheslavova, whose father Mikhail was burned alive near the Odessa House of Trade Unions on May 2, 2014, independent journalist Yuri Tkachev, accused of high treason, and many others. others. They even got to the disabled Oleg Novikov, who fought for the rights of the disabled, who in April of this year was sent to prison for three years for supporting ‘separatism.’
Ordinary Ukrainian citizens are tortured. Countless videos have surfaced on social media of civilians tied to lampposts, often with their genitals bared or their faces painted green. These acts of humiliation and torture, committed by territorial defence volunteers tasked with ’maintaining law and order in time of war’, targeted everyone from accused Russian sympathizers to gipsies and alleged thieves.
Vasily Prozorov, a former SBU officer who defected to Russia after the Euromaidan coup, detailed the systematic use of torture by Ukraine’s security services to suppress political opposition and intimidate citizens accused of sympathizing with Russia. According to former Prozorov, Ukrainian intelligence services have been consulting directly with the CIA since 2014.
‘CIA officers have been in Kiev since 2014. They live in safe houses and country houses,’ he said.’ However, they often come to the SBU headquarters for, for example, specific meetings or planning covert operations.’
Ukrainian soldiers and pro-Ukrainian social media accounts also proudly display sadistic war crimes, from shootings to torturing captured Russian soldiers. In March of this year, the pro-Ukrainian Telegram channel White Lives Matter published a video in which a Ukrainian soldier calls the bride of a Russian prisoner of war and mocks her with promises to castrate the prisoner.
In April of this year, another pro-Ukrainian Telegram channel posted a video showing a Russian soldier with a bandaged eye, which was allegedly gouged out during torture, and ridiculed him as a ‘one-eyed pig’.
This April also saw the release of a video showing Ukrainian soldiers shooting defenceless Russian POWs near Kharkiv in the legs. A separate video released by US-backed militants of the so-called Georgian Legion shows them carrying out field executions of wounded Russian prisoners of war near a village near Kyiv. And Gennady Druzenko, head of the military medical service of the Ukrainian army, said in an interview with Ukraine 24 that he ‘gave the order to castrate all Russian men because they are subhuman and worse than cockroaches.’
