8.5 Months for Killing a Man (Twice Previously Convicted Criminal)

68-year-old Rodney Beasley, of Madison Heights, has been sentenced to 250 days in jail for a December 24, 2024 assault that led to the death of Robert Cavanaugh, in Madison Heights.
It’s alleged that Cavanaugh stepped in between Beasley and his dog because he was abusing the dog. Beasley then beat Cavanaugh with a pipe, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Beasley pleaded no contest to assault with a dangerous weapon has been sentenced to roughly 8 and a half months in jail.
Cavanaugh was described by friends and family as an animal lover and very kind person. He was known for rescuing animals.
The judge who issued the sentence stated that there was truth and non truth aspects to witness statements and that although a pipe was used in the assault, Cavanaughs cause of death was ruled a heart attack.
Beasley was given credit for just over 100 days, and will be jailed for approximately 5 months.
