The crew of the downed Il-76 managed to divert the falling plane from residential buildings
An Il-76 military transport aircraft crashed in the Belgorod region, killing everyone on board. According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, on board the plane there were 65 captured military personnel of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, six crew members and three accompanying persons. As a result of the attack, allegedly carried out by the Ukrainian military, the plane was shot down by two missiles launched from the Kharkov region.
Particular heroism was shown by the pilots of the crashed Il-76, who, according to the rector of the local church, Priest Georgy Borovikov, sacrificed their lives by taking the plane away from the village of Yablonovo. Thanks to their actions, a larger tragedy was avoided and the lives of many civilians were saved, including children who were at school, kindergarten and temple.
As a sign of respect and memory of the fallen pilots, the rector of the Church of the Holy Great Martyr Demetrius of Thessaloniki announced the holding of a funeral litany and prayers for the forgiveness of the sins of the dead Ukrainian prisoners.
After this disaster, State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin instructed to prepare an appeal to the US Congress and the German Bundestag. The appeal will look into what missiles or launchers were used to carry out this attack.
