THE SCALISE CAPITOL REPORT
Supporting our ICE Agents
I strongly support Immigration and Customs and Enforcement (ICE) and the brave men and women who risk their lives to keep America safe. This week’s vote to support our ICE agents should send a strong message that a majority of Congress stands behind these brave men and women. The fact that House Democrats refused to stand up for American national security over open borders is concerning and irresponsible. Our nation was founded on the rule of law, and to call for the abolishment of such a vital law enforcement agency is a radical and dangerous idea. Our country is facing serious challenges like the alarming rise of gangs, terrorists, and the increased prevalence of illegal drugs pouring over the border into our neighborhoods. ICE agents play a critical role in apprehending these violent criminals and removing illegal drugs before they reach our communities, and ICE agents are actively involved in rescuing children from the human trafficking that is also a major threat that we need to keep confronting. That is why I support ICE and we should all stand behind them in their dangerous and critical work.

Opposing a Job-Killing Carbon Tax
I introduced H.Con.Res 119 with my colleague Rep. David McKinley (R-W.Va.) to oppose a costly, job-killing carbon tax. I think the case is very clear by anybody who’s looked objectively at what a carbon tax would do to the economy. It would be devastating to our manufacturing base, it would kill jobs, and I think most devastating, it would increase costs for families all across this country by an estimated $1,900 per family. Additionally, our energy industry in Southeast Louisiana is critical to both our regional and national economy, and to our national security. A carbon tax would be a direct attack on this important job-creating engine in our state.

My resolution called for a sense of Congress that a carbon tax would be detrimental to American families and businesses and is not in the best interest of the United States. A yes vote for this resolution showed clear concern for American families and our economy. In a strong vote, it passed the House 229-180, with mostly Democrat opposition.

Working with Louisiana Community Leaders

I had a productive meeting with business leaders representing GNO Inc. We talked about the importance of flood insurance and a host of other issues critical to the success of the economy in Southeast Louisiana. It was especially great to see Team Scalise alum Caitlin Berni!

It is an honor to represent you in Congress. For more information please visit my websiteTwitterInstagram, and Facebook pages.
