SJP has always been represented by Hollywood’s most powerful agent, Kevin Huvane. He’s been with her since Square Pegs. When she did SATC, it was her return to TV since SP because she’d spent a decade making movies. He ensured she would get producing credits on SATC every season, which resulted in her becoming a Co-Executive Producer in the later season. He also ensured none of the other women would earn as much as her. End of. That was all agreed upon by HBO prior to hiring Kim, Cynthia, or Kristin. Apparently, Kristin earned the most after SJP because of her recent stint on Melrose Place; Kim came in third since she wasn’t a big movie star anymore; and Cynthia was last because she was a theatre actor. Let’s not forget that HBO wanted Kim for Samantha, but she kept turning it down (they even hired an actress for the role!) until Darren Starr’s boyfriend, who was her friend, convinced her to do the show. Then Darren Starr, her ally, leaves after Season 3. Kim is stuck on a show she never really wanted to do while SJP’s contract curtailed her earnings and SJP essentially became her boss. That’s probably why people don’t like SJP because of her pre-negotiated power which seemed like it was underhanded, but a product of a very savvy agent.

In 2016 SJP said in an interview for publication that she wasn’t a feminist.

She did go on to incoherently explain she believes in equal pay/equality for all but she played Carrie Bradshaw, it was so disappointing and disrespectful to say the least. Betrayal to everything her fans loved her for.

I honestly am shocked I’m the first one here to remember that, but I know I’m not the only one to have never forgiven her.

For me it was when she tweeted her condolences at Kim. There are so many layers to why that’s fucked up if they didn’t get along on set. And even if they did get along, you don’t tweet condolences at someone you’ve worked with for 6 seasons and 2 movies!!

Kim’s reaction to SJPs condolences is what confirmed it for me. That’s raw pain and anger and she has every right to feel it when her brother and family are clearly being used for publicity. If my bullies did that to me it would be on sight.

I love SJP and think she’s fabulous. I also think KC is amazing. SJP comes off a bit pretentious so I think that’s part of it. And once she was exec prod KC’s storylines got more ridiculous and comical…in a bad way.

I think it’s because she seems to be the ringleader of this entire franchise now, and the franchise is… well… you know what the posts on here are like.

At this point it almost seems that Carrie is SO unaware of her narcissism that, possibly, SJP is also unaware. How can she play that character for so long without feeling like a total ass?

I don’t dislike SJP the actor. I dislike Carrie most of the time.

She didn’t support the other women getting paid their due and she’s extremely obnoxious and out of touch.

She pretends to be humble and unaware and just an artist, but it’s all a facade… in the AJLT Writers’ Room Podcast, there was an episode with the three main ladies, they are discussing the initial casting for the show, and Kristen is talking about how SATC was the talk of the town for actresses at that time trying to land a show. And SJP is literally just saying in the background, lreally!!!?? What??! Wow…. Omg I had no idea it was such a big deal…” The performative humility is so dishonest and unnecessary.

I don’t hate her, she was really nice when I met her.

She serves as an executive producer, and everyone reveres her while her diva attitude appears to influence her fictional character Carrie.

The pay difference is vile considering each and every character was vital to the success of the show. They each portrayed a personality type, and did it well. Poor Kim having to show her boobs and crotch all the time while SJP did not.
There is clear favoritism towards her as also every man on the episode is besotted with her when all four are out. And none stop thinking about her, even when they marry others.

I think it’s how cold she comes across. I can’t say a particular thing I have wrong with her but she’s never seemed friendly or warm to me.

. . .so many explanations for the drama between her and her costars. I think, however, that any “animosity” toward SJP is more because of the attitude she projects. She may be a very kind person–I’ve no idea; never met her; have no common friends–but there is something about her that I find off-putting. An “air of superiority” seems to emanate from her–merely my opinion; not meant to offend her, or her fans.

Edit: I am from New York. I remember her from when she was a theatre actress. Back then, she shared how her parents struggled financially; how much the family sacrificed for her to live her dream. She seemed quite humble. I can’t help but wonder if she has forgotten from whence she came, or if the attitude she now projects is an affectation.

I don’t hate SJP I do think she dominated SaTC and saw it as her show as she was the leading lady even though the show would be nothing without the group of them. I think she was intimidated in a sence by Samantha as she’s a fabulous actress and was not prepared to sit in the background unlike the other two who were happy to stay in the shade she fought her corner and rightly show I mean the show is nothing without Sam/Kim . SJP if rumours were to be believed mean girled her after that on set . The fact she tires SO HARD to be liked by the public in the aftermath SO hard to be silkily sweet nice girl next door comes across as well fake and is off putting to most . Her character Carrie is also written as intolerable self-centred and not a good friend to her loyal friends so that doesn’t help
