Machine Gun Kelly’s allegedly shady fan behavior was put on blast in May 2021 in a viral TikTok video posted by @emmielamp. Sharing a 2019 encounter she had with Kelly when she was 19, Lamp recalled how they met up in Cleveland and it became a “literal s*** show.” Showing screenshots as proof, Lamp recalled him liking one of her photos and DM’d her. They agreed to meet up but soon, she was locked in a bathroom, crying because he had called her a “dumb” and “weird b****” and was “cussing me out.” Why? In a follow-up video, Lamp said they went to The Diner and when he dropped his hat, she picked it up. Handing it to him, she said “Here, sis,” which reportedly triggered a barrage of insults. “Maybe it’s because we were in front of other people,” she mused. “He said it was disrespectful” and that “he’s never had a b**** disrespect him like that.” Commenters backed her claims (via Daily Dot) with one writing, “He does this to girls in the towns that he’s playing at.” Another confirmed her friend “had a really similar thing happen.”
As further evidence, one fan posted a photo of himself standing next to MGK (who’s looking the other way) at Reading Festival in 2019 and shared how when he asked for a pic, Kelly “ignored me. I asked again, he turned to me, looked me dead in the eye and said ‘How many times I gotta tell you mother****** just take the f****** photo.'” Yikes.

Of all of the things that have landed Machine Gun Kelly in the headlines, his comments on the 2012 BET Awards red carpet top the list. That’s because, while doing an interview, MGK thought it was the perfect time to talk about oral sex. More specifically, how great Black women are at it. Proclaiming he believes that women of color are too demure, he encouraged them to stop saying, “I don’t do that unless you’re my man” and instead “show your skills ’cause Black girls give the best h*** 100 percent.” Backlash was swift with MadameNoire dubbing him “an ignorant white boy.” A change.org petition was even launched, demanding Kelly be held “accountable for racist remarks towards Black Women” by “his employers,” in other words, “Interscope and Bad Boy Records.”
However, the terrible comments he made that day didn’t end there, per MadameNoire. When one woman standing nearby overheard his speech, she walked away, sparking an unbelievable tirade from MGK. “B****, walk the f*** away,” he slammed, calling the woman a “f****** dirty ignorant b****” and commenting on her “fake a** Louis Vuitton purse” and “lipstick all f***** up.” In 2014, Kelly was asked about the comments during an interview with VladTV. Not one to back down, he stood firmly by what he said. “That’s a f****** compliment,” he proclaimed.

For celebrities, it’s not hard to lose sight of the little people. While it can’t be easy to be the center of attention, stars have the choice to either be cool about their fans’ overzealous adulation or to be a total celebri-jerk about it. Here are some A-listers who, allegedly, have done some pretty terrible things to us pathetic, regular people.
Rihanna

Rihanna is a rude girl, at least to some fans. “My coworker won free tickets and backstage passes to see Rihanna about a year after they were first playing ‘Umbrella’ on the radio,” a former fan told Thought Catalog. “When her kids finally got the chance to go meet Rihanna, she was sitting at her makeup booth and refused to face them, or even look at them. When they asked for her autograph, she told the closest backup dancer to forge it for them and shooed them away.”
In 2014, Rihanna posted a frowny face on Twitter and linked to a picture of a 16-year-old fan’s prom dress, which was similar to a Wile E. Coyote-inspired costume the singer wore to an awards show a few years earlier. She tweeted (via The Huffington Post), “Dark Thot Rises” and “#prombat” in response to the unitard and shared the bullying image with tens of millions of people, alienating countless fans, and completely ruining one fan’s prom memories. We had to look up “thot,” and it’s not nice.
Christian Bale

Bale has been caught on tape berating crew members on set, and he was arrested for freaking out at family members during a press tour, so his anger issues are common knowledge. However, the actor’s so-called former PR agent alleges the Black Knight’s behavior towards fans is even worse, recounting an instance when Bale berated little girls to tears after they’d asked him for an autograph, and another event that involved Bale faxing a fan an elaborate death threat involving a screwdriver. Bale was never charged for the threat, nor his crimes against Batman’s voice.
Michael Jordan

The legends of Jordan’s rudeness and competitiveness are legion, but none stand out more than when rapper Chamillionaire asked Jordan for a photograph. According to Chamillionaire’s interview with the Madd Hatta Morning Show in 2015, the rapper bought a Jordan jersey at a charity event for $15,000, but when he asked for a photo with no. 23, Jordan reportedly said, “I don’t take pictures with n****’s” and told Chamillionaire to pay him $15k in exchange for a photo. Chamillionaire declined.
Justin Bieber

Justin Bieber: where to begin. The pop kid has acted atrociously toward his Beliebers. He allegedly spit on fans from a balcony in Toronto, Canada, mooned others at historic Mayan ruins in Mexico, and desecrated an Argentinian flag handed to him by a fan. And that’s just the tip of his tantrums. There are numerous reports and videos of Justin losing his cool with fans, and then, in 2016, he declared on Instagram (via Time) that he was no longer going to take pictures with fans because he “feels like a zoo animal,” adding, “I realize people will be disappointed but I don’t owe anybody a picture.” Okay, well, if the Biebs wanted self-aware, highly restrained fans, maybe he shouldn’t have targeted young girls. They’re not exactly known for their restraint.
Rachael Ray

Despite her legacy of down-to-earth 30-minute meals, Ray is known to be a diva off set. Audience members at her shows have complained about her attitude, waitstaff have accused her of being a bad customer, and during one of her tours, Ray allegedly had it out with a hotel concierge, reportedly stating, “I need stupid people not to talk to me.”

For a bass player who dresses like a clown, Gene Simmons apparently has a very high opinion of himself. The Kiss rocker made international headlines in 2014 when he spoke harshly about people with mental health issues and depression. He told Songfacts, “I’m the guy who says ‘Jump!’ when there’s a guy on top of a building who says, ‘That’s it, I can’t take it anymore, I’m going to jump. Are you kidding? Why are you announcing it? Shut the f**k up, have some dignity and jump! You’ve got the crowd.” Multiple radio stations stopped playing his music in response.

When he’s not busting ghosts, he’s breaking hearts. While it would seem unlikely that the affable comedian is a terrible guy, comedy legend and vodka baron Dan Aykroyd has been rated one of MeanStars meanest. It’s alleged that Aykroyd regularly surrounds himself with “goons,” and demands special treatment at restaurants and movie theaters. Even back in 2004, MSNBC caught Aykroyd berating Americans for “consumerism” at a promotional event for his holiday movie, Christmas With the Kranks. According to the news network, the Ghostbuster said, “the common enemy in North America is the Western consumer,” who he blamed for “these wars.” Guess we shouldn’t be buying those Ray Stantz action figures.
Ariana Grande

Pop starlet Ariana Grande managed to not only alienate most of her fans, but an entire country when she stated, “I hate Americans. I hate America” on July 4, 2015 in a California doughnut shop. She also licked pastries she didn’t buy. Her egregious behavior was caught on the shop’s security camera. The singer was subsequently nixed from performing at a White House event, reported Us Weekly, despite multiple public apologies.
Bruce Willis

It’s pretty common knowledge among movie buffs that Bruce Willis is a notoriously difficult actor to work with, based on stories told by everyone from Kevin Smith to Sylvester Stallone, but fans’ personal stories reflect more of the same. According to a report on MeanStars, Willis allegedly scolded a couple of kids in a mall food court for recognizing him and pointing him out, though why a child would recognize Willis for anything seems unusual these days.

Cameron Diaz is notoriously reluctant to sign autographs, and she’s apparently even against interacting with fans when it’s part of the job. Witnesses told Radar Online that the actress was not interested in the fans at a fan premiere of Sex Tape (2014), “It’s not like the fans were following them at a hotel or restaurant, it was a film premiere with fans,” the insider said. “When Cameron was spotted, she…refused the fans [photos and autographs] telling them, ‘If I did it for you, I’d have have to do it for everyone,’ before storming off.”
The source noted that even if she “did it for everyone,” it probably wouldn’t have taken long. “Cameron was as unfriendly as can be and it was really disappointing…There were literally only four of five fans waiting and asking for them when they left. It was not a huge crowd and would have taken less time for them to sign an autograph or take a picture rather than giving a lecture about not doing it.”

Diaz’s Sex Tape (2014) co-star, Jason Segel, didn’t fare much better at the very same event. Though other fans have said he’s pretty jovial, that fateful night in July 2014, spectators say his “attitude was disgusting,” according to Radar Online. “When a 20-something fan asked Jason for a photo as he left the premiere he said, ‘no’ and literally slammed the car door right in the fan’s face,” a source said. “People gasped, that’s how bad it was…Jason was downright nasty to his fans.”
Martha Stewart

One fan said Martha Stewart was so mean at an autograph signing that it was almost criminal. “After waiting in line, my mother was refused an extra autograph and she also wouldn’t make out the one promised autograph to anyone but the person who was getting it,” a fan claimed via Reddit. “Even after explaining it was for her son, Martha refused. I could maybe understand if it was after signing 5,000 autographs or even 500, but it was a small event…At the very end of the event as people are leaving Martha Stewart was overheard talking to her mother who happened to be with her,” the fan continued. When Stewart’s mom asked what to do with floral arrangements at the event, Stewart allegedly replied, “We take them or throw them out, these common people don’t deserve them, far too expensive and they wouldn’t appreciate their beauty.”
Another Reddit source says Stewart once told a fan, “Unless you can magically make coffee appear, get out of my face.”
Billy Corgan

Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan was straight up mean to a fan who gave him a compliment. “He came into a club I worked in when he was on tour,” the fan posted on Reddit (via Gigwise). “I was a huge fan and I told him so. He said my opinion was ‘f***ing bulls***’ and to ‘f*** off.'” Another fan on Reddit claims Corgan spit in his face. Maybe that attitude is why Zwan didn’t work out.

During a 2012 movie promotion with Kate Winslet, the Titanic (1997) damsel reportedly blew off locals who waited hours in the rain to meet her. “[Winslet was] so rude, she never once acknowledged any of us, I was devastated,” local resident Shanna Swan told OK!. “She gave dirty looks to people in my town who waited hours to see her.”
William Shatner

One Redditor had the unfortunate experience of dealing with actor William Shatner more than once, and every time was similarly bad. “I’ve dealt with him on film projects, at comic conventions, and on a sponsorship deal, and he’s universally a d**k to everyone. Making volunteers cry, telling fans to pose a certain way or he won’t take their picture, refusing to say even a word to people who paid $100 for an autograph,” the insider dished. “Just this weekend he was wicked drunk at a convention in San Jose and humiliated a bunch of volunteers.”

Don’t expect much from a meet-and-greet with Britney Spears. One disappointed fan told OK!, “Fans were told before the meet-and-greet that they were not to hug or touch Britney without her permission and they weren’t allowed to bring her any gifts. And then once they finally got to meet her it was like smile, take a photo, goodbye. Each person literally got like three seconds with her. She barely spoke.”
Mike Myers

A fan saw Mike Myers at a bar, and his behavior was supposedly more Shrek (2001) than Love Guru (2008). “Prior to paying our tab, I walked over [to Myers] and said, ‘Hey Mike, I’m a big fan, can I buy you a beer?'” the fan told Mean Stars. “And without even turning to look at me, he says, “I can afford my own drinks a**hole, save your money for my next movie.'”

One Redditor had a bad experience with actor Django Unchained (2012) actor Jamie Foxx. “Several years ago, when Stealth [2005] was coming out, they held the premiere at the Naval Air Station in San Diego. They gave a few tickets to the event to the ships that were in port at the time and I was lucky enough to get a pair. Before the showing of the movie, everyone was mingling around and socializing. Jessica Biel, Josh Lucas, the director, producers, and everyone else involved in the picture were very gracious and friendly. Everyone, that is, except Jamie Foxx, who sat in his seat the entire time with his sunglasses on and didn’t want to be bothered…He could’ve shook some hands and been cordial, but he didn’t.” Maybe he can blame it on the a-a-a-a-a-alcohol.

Scarlett Johansson had fans seeing red after she left them high and dry. “I had just seen a play on Broadway starring Scarlett Johansson, and I was waiting by the stage exit after the play, along with at least fifteen other people, for autographs,” a fan claimed on Reddit. “It was February in NYC, snowing hard, we were all freezing. Each one of her co-stars came out and signed..Scarlett was the very last to exit and she completely ignored everybody. I was younger and it completely crushed me, she was my favorite celebrity and this was my only chance to ever see her. Pretty much everyone who waited 45+ minutes beside me had the same sentiments.”
Madonna

The Queen of Pop has a reputation for being cruel to her loyal subjects. One Reddit witness watched Madonna write “f**k you” instead of signing an autograph for a fan. That apparently wasn’t an isolated incident: the Daily Mail reports that Madge berated fans for having the nerve to be upset that she showed up more than an hour late for a Manchester, England, concert in December 2015, telling the crowd, “All you b****es who keep complaining about it can shut the f**k up…If you diva b****es want to keep complaining about it don’t come to my show.” She also once humiliated a fan who was too starstruck to sing along with her at a separate concert. Sounds like music really doesn’t make the people come together.

One Thirty Seconds to Mars fan doesn’t worship Jared Leto anymore. “The band was autographing things after the show, so I waited in line. They all talked amongst themselves as they absentmindedly signed autographs,” an unlucky fan told Thought Catalog. “When I got to Jared Leto, I said, ‘Hey, that was a great show!’ He responded, ‘I signed your s**t, now f**k off!'”
Laurence Fishburne

Laurence Fishburne apparently doesn’t like taking time away from his busy life to acknowledge some of his supporters, at least according to one Mean Stars story from the set of Mystic River (2003). “When I was 16 or 17, my friend and I got to visit the set of Mystic River…We met all of the lead actors except for Laurence Fishburne, and the assistant went to find him. She discovered that he was in a trailer nearby, so she brought us over to the trailer and knocked on the door,” the fan says. When the assistant told Fishburne there were some high school students who’d like to meet him, his reply was, “‘Tell ’em to go f**k themselves.'”
Sandra Bullock

Sandra Bullock is generally regarded as America’s sweetheart, so she blindsided one autograph-seeking fan with her unsportsmanlike behavior. In December 2012, a source told Star (via Celebrity Dirty Laundry) that Bullock flipped out at a fan when he asked her to sign something. “Sandra was so rude. She covered her face and yelled,” the spy said. “He just wanted an autograph, and she actually yelled at him!” To make the whole matter even worse: the fan was reportedly a wheelchair-bound veteran. Yikes.

It seems this Top Gun (1986) star’s “Iceman” nickname may extend to his fan interactions. “Val Kilmer was filming a show in my hood. A small handful of us were looking on at the set at like 2 a.m. just out of curiosity. No shouting, no heckling, just folks not used to hollywood being in town,” a fan posted on Reddit. “Val takes it upon himself to walk over, ask us, ‘Don’t you people have anything better to do? Isn’t there a bar open somewhere?’ and walks back to the set.”

It’s unclear what former Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County (2004-06) reality star Kristin Cavallari does that would make her have hordes of fans, but she reportedly doesn’t even treat them well. A witness told Star magazine (via Talko) that a fan told Cavallari at an event, “I love you so much. Can you sign something for me?” She allegedly responded by mocking the fan behind her back. Ew!
Adam Levine

A fan told Reddit (via Gigwise) that the Maroon 5 frontman is reportedly picky about who is and is not worthy of his autograph. “I was with one of my girlfriends. She was so excited to get [Adam Levine’s] autograph,” the fan said. “After asking for it, he said, ‘I don’t give autographs to ugly chicks.'”
Robert Pattinson

Actor Robert Pattinson has dissed the very fans that made him relevant and rich. “What’s really weird about Twilight fans is that they’re not really teenagers. Most of them are older,” he told Interview magazine (via Us Weekly). “Twilight has its own fan culture that existed from day one. And in an intense way that didn’t exist before. Sometimes I ask myself what these masses of people do the whole day. They sit in front of their computers and comment on anything having even remotely to do with Twilight.”

Before Hailee Steinfeld was a pop star and an Oscar nominee for True Grit (2010), she was a heartbroken fan of Glee (2009-15) crooner Lea Michele. Steinfeld told J-14, “When I was auditioning for True Grit, I was on the Paramount lot. I was wearing clothes from the 1800s that were big and uncomfortable. Glee also films on the lot and I love the show, but I haven’t really followed it. I saw Lea Michele just walking to her trailer and I was like, ‘That’s the girl from Glee. I’ve got to go ask for her autograph!’ So I walked up to her and asked for her autograph, but she walked by and a guy came and said, ‘Sorry, now’s not a good time!’ So I had to walk all the way back to the car wearing what I was wearing. I was practically crying on the way home. I was so sad!”

Country music celebrity Toby Keith may be patriotic, but that doesn’t mean he’s friendly, not even with the troops he loves to say he supports. A source told Reddit, “He was doing a USO tour, and came through Iraq. We had a ‘DV (Distinguished Visitor)’ tent set up, and after his show, some of the guys I worked with wanted to see him. He was in there about six hours or so before his flight, and they asked the guards who were outside his tent if they could meet him. They heard his response clearly from inside, ‘Tell the airmen they can take a picture of me when they take my bags to the plane.’…He could have made that deployment a thousand times better for them, but instead, it just made them feel worse.”

Motley Crue drummer Tommy Lee isn’t interested in selfies with you, even if you’re the source of his livelihood. In an open letter posted to the band’s Facebook page in June 2012, Lee wrote that while he “f***ing loves” his fan, “what I have a problem with is…taking pictures! I hate it! Irritates the f**k out of me when people say…’You owe it to your fans, they put you where you are, etc. etc.!’ I certainly don’t owe anybody anything!” He added, “I’m not here to take pictures with you, I’m here to entertain you! Nobody put me where I am but ME! They may have helped inspire me with their love for what I do…but I put myself right here where I want to be with a lot of hard work, practice, talent, luck, etc. What I do owe myself and others is being THE BEST I can be! And that’s making great music, being a good man, father, lover and human being! We all owe that kinda stuff to ourselves and each other…Most people never consider the ‘situation.'” A year later, he announced he would no longer participate in band meet and greets with fans.

Not only is cycling great Lance Armstrong a cheater, he’s not even a good sport off the bike trail. “Back when he had just won his second Tour De France, my buddy took his 7-year-old brother to meet Lance at an event,” a source told Reddit. “His brother had battled leukemia as a very young child and came out on top, and Lance was his biggest hero. The moment came and Lance was right next to them, so my friend went to introduce his brother and quickly share his story and he was met with, ‘Yeah whatever, I really don’t care’ before he could finish.”

Like some other celebrities, comedienne Amy Schumer has made no secret about her mixed feelings about fans. In November 2015, the Associated Press (via Page Six) said she shortchanged a Maine comedy club audience when she performed for only 35-40 minutes of the hour they’d been promised. In January 2016, she publicly lashed out at a 17-year-old fan for a joke he tweeted about her after meeting her at an event, and in May 2016, she attacked a fan on Instagram (and even posted his photo) after she refused to take a picture with him while walking down the street.
Schumer said, “This guy in front of his family just ran up next to me scared the s**t out of me. Put a camera in my face. I asked him to stop and he said, ‘No, it’s America and we paid for you.’ This was in front of his daughter. I was saying ‘stop’ and ‘no.’ Great message to your kid. Yes, legally you are allowed to take a picture of me. But I was asking you to stop and saying no. I will not take [pictures] with people anymore and it’s because of this dude in Greenville.”
The fan’s account, which was backed up by a video, was a lot different. In his clip, Schumer calmly says, “That’s rude. Can you delete that?” The fan then apologizes. The scorned fan told FOX Carolina that he immediately stopped recording when Schumer asked. “I did it in a non-threatening way. She says I got all up in her face, and it was completely different from the video.” He claims Schumer walked away, but then returned to take his photo and share it with her millions of Instagram followers.
A source close to the Trainwreck (2015) star says it’s unsurprising that Schumer avoids fan interactions. The insider told Page Six, “She’s always hated taking photos with fans, even before she had a TV show or a movie. She couldn’t be bothered then, and she can’t be bothered now.”
