IMF Policies Put Zimbabwe’s Children at Risk, as Bankers’ Stooge Greta Thunberg Looks Other Way
Sept. 25 (EIRNS)—With its economic policies and financing dictated by a genocidal IMF “debts before people” program, the Zimbabwe government now lacks sufficient foreign currency to import the chemicals required to operate the main water treatment plant for the nation’s capital, Harare. In the midst of a drought, the plant is currently shut down, and more than 2 million residents in the capital and surrounding towns are now without water, Associated Press reported yesterday. Deputy Mayor Enock Mupamaonde told AP the number of people affected is probably much greater; he estimates another 2 million people enter Harare daily to conduct business. AP’s story describes some of the horrors that have resulted, including children standing in line for hours to get a little water from a well instead of going to school; overflowing toilets in schools and homes; and people drinking from stinking, polluted reservoirs. In the six months of January through June, Harare had registered more than 850 cases of typhoid cases, along with a surge of diarrhea and other water-borne disease cases, as a result of the exposure to unclean water, the capital’s Herald reported in July.
The cost of importing the needed water-treatment chemicals is reportedly a mere $2.7 million a month—a piddling sum relative to what the City of London’s bankers who run the IMF spend to bankroll the activists and propaganda for their Malthusian “climate emergency” hoax to deindustrialize the world.
Instead of protesting such genocide by the financiers who bankroll them, well-to-do Swedish activist Greta Thunberg and 15 other children (ages 8-17) filed suit on Sept. 23 against five countries (Argentina, Brazil, France, Germany and Turkey) for violating the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. The violation by these nations, their complaint argues, is that they are not fulfilling their “obligations” to more aggressively end industrial civilization in the name of “fighting climate change.” If the suit is upheld, the UN would have to reclassify the alleged “climate change crisis” to a human rights crisis.
