Trump: ‘Each of Us Can Choose To Build a Culture that Celebrates the Inherent Worth and Dignity of Every Human Life’

Aug. 5 (EIRNS)—From Hong Kong to Moscow; from El Paso to Dayton; from the endangered U.S.-China relations to the scuttling of the INF Treaty and U.S. military leaders pushing for military encirclement of Russia and China; the London-centered forces presiding over the collapse of their system have launched a series of destabilizations, designed to induce overwhelming pessimism about the future of mankind. Helga-Zepp LaRouche addressed this global crisis, and its solution, today in her weekly webcast.

She addressed the culture of death and violence being spread by the Green New Deal and the Extinction Rebellion, and the financial swindles associated with decarbonization which are designed to bail out the bankrupt system for at least a few more months, while the real economy collapses.

Zepp-LaRouche emphasized that the pessimism must be addressed by bringing the space-faring nations together—the U.S., Russia, China, India, and Japan—as the core of international cooperation, to prove that the Earth is not a closed system, and move from confrontation to cooperation, proving, as Lyndon LaRouche always insisted, that the unique human quality of willful creativity offers a solution to all these crises.

President Donald Trump today took a dramatic step towards addressing this fundamental pessimism driven by the cultural decay in western society. Speaking to the world from the White House regarding the horrendous mass killings this past weekend in Texas and Ohio, President Trump spoke about the role of guns and reforming gun laws, the need for new policies on mental health, and for recognizing “red flags” of potential killers, but most importantly, he emphasized the urgency of addressing the cultural issue:

“We must stop the glorification of violence in our society,” he said. “This includes the gruesome and grisly video games that are now commonplace.  It is too easy today for troubled youth to surround themselves with a culture that celebrates violence.  We must stop or substantially reduce this, and it has to begin immediately.  Cultural change is hard, but each of us can choose to build a culture that celebrates the inherent worth and dignity of every human life.  That’s what we have to do.”

The multiple destabilizations come in the wake of President Trump’s historic meetings with Presidents Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping in Osaka, and his visit to North Korea to meet with Chairman Kim Jong Un. These acts of personal diplomacy by the President are the only means to break through the war-mongering of the neoconservatives around him and in both parties in the Congress. This personal diplomacy, together with his announcement of the Artemis Moon-Mars mission to establish a permanent base on the Moon by 2024, has unleashed a contagious surge of optimism in the American population—which has had no reason to be optimistic over these past four decades and more.

The LaRouche movement is the natural beneficiary of this renewed optimism, as older people recall that LaRouche had introduced these ideas 50 years ago, while younger people are hungry for leadership to achieve this new paradigm.

Our petitions for the Moon-Mars Mission and for the exoneration of Lyndon LaRouche are the tools necessary to galvanize this new optimism into the necessary political muscle to achieve this revolutionary transformation.

President Trump Delivers Address on El Paso and Dayton Mass Killings

Aug. 5 (EIRNS)—President Donald Trump this morning addressed the world from the White House on the mass killings in El Paso and Dayton over the weekend. While he addressed the role of guns and reforming gun laws, the need for new policies on mental health and recognizing “red flags” of potential killers, he most importantly emphasized the urgency of addressing the cultural decay in our society.

A further excerpt from the speech:

“The First Lady and I join all Americans in praying and grieving for the victims, their families, and the survivors.  We will stand by their side forever.  We will never forget.

“These barbaric slaughters are an assault upon our communities, an attack upon our nation, and a crime against all of humanity.  We are outraged and sickened by this monstrous evil, the cruelty, the hatred, the malice, the bloodshed, and the terror.  Our hearts are shattered for every family whose parents, children, husbands, and wives were ripped from their arms and their lives. America weeps for the fallen.

“We are a loving nation, and our children are entitled to grow up in a just, peaceful, and loving society.  Together, we lock arms to shoulder the grief, we ask God in Heaven to ease the anguish of those who suffer, and we vow to act with urgent resolve….

“The shooter in El Paso posted a manifesto online consumed by racist hate.  In one voice, our nation must condemn racism, bigotry, and white supremacy.  These sinister ideologies must be defeated.  Hate has no place in America.  Hatred warps the mind, ravages the heart, and devours the soul….

“We must recognize that the Internet has provided a dangerous avenue to radicalize disturbed minds and perform demented acts. We must shine light on the dark recesses of the Internet, and stop mass murders before they start.  The Internet, likewise, is used for human trafficking, illegal drug distribution, and so many other heinous crimes.  The perils of the Internet and social media cannot be ignored, and they will not be ignored.

“In the two decades since Columbine, our nation has watched with rising horror and dread as one mass shooting has followed another over and over again, decade after decade.

“We cannot allow ourselves to feel powerless.  We can and will stop this evil contagion.  In that task, we must honor the sacred memory of those we have lost by acting as one people. Open wounds cannot heal if we are divided.  We must seek real, bipartisan solutions.  We have to do that in a bipartisan manner. That will truly make America safer and better for all….

“Republicans and Democrats have proven that we can join together in a bipartisan fashion to address this plague.  Last year, we enacted the STOP School Violence and Fix NICS Acts into law, providing grants to improve school safety and strengthening critical background checks for firearm purchases.  At my direction, the Department of Justice banned bump stocks.  Last year, we prosecuted a record number of firearms offenses.  But there is so much more that we have to do.

“Now is the time to set destructive partisanship aside—so destructive— and find the courage to answer hatred with unity, devotion, and love.  Our future is in our control.  America will rise to the challenge.  We will always have and we always will win.  The choice is ours and ours alone.  It is not up to mentally ill monsters; it is up to us.

“If we are able to pass great legislation after all of these years, we will ensure that those who were attacked will not have died in vain.

“May God bless the memory of those who perished. May God protect them.  May God protect all of those from Texas to Ohio. May God bless the victims and their families.  May God bless America.

Thank you very much.”

El Paso and Dayton Killers—Left/Right Fascist Profiles

Aug. 5 (EIRNS)—While the media have been full of almost constant rants that the killings were the result of Trump’s “racism” and his “spewing hatred,” the profiles of the two killers reveal something far more truthful and important—although there are “right” and “left” aspects to both, they share a fascist hatred for humanity.

Patrick Crusius, the El Paso killer, did indeed include racist and anti-Hispanic rants in the manifesto he posted 20 minutes before starting his killing spree against mostly Hispanics, telling them to “go back,” denouncing “race mixing,” and calling for partitioning the U.S. for different races, while also supporting the slaughter of Muslims in Christchurch, New Zealand.

But his manifesto is titled “An Inconvenient Truth,” and it is not an accidental reference to Al Gore’s lying diatribe about carbon and climate. Crusius writes:

“The decimation of the environment is creating a massive burden for future generations. Corporations are heading the destruction of our environment by shamelessly over harvesting resources…. Consumer culture is creating thousands of tons of unnecessary plastic waste and electronic waste, and recycling to help slow this down is almost non-existent. Urban sprawl creates inefficient cities which unnecessarily destroys millions of acres of land. We even use god knows how many trees worth of paper towels just wipe water [sic] off our hands … most of ya’ll are just too stubborn to change your lifestyle. So the next logical step is to decrease the number of people in America using resources. If we can get rid of enough people, then our way of life can become more sustainable.”

This is a virtual restatement of Bertrand Russell: “If a Black Death could be spread throughout the world once in every generation, survivors could procreate freely without making the world too full. … The state of affairs might be unpleasant, but what of it?”

Crusius also supported policies identified with the new “progressives” in the Democratic Party: “Achieving … ambitions social projects like universal healthcare and [universal basic income] would become far more likely to succeed if … tens of millions of dependents are removed.”

The Dayton killer, Connor Betts, was a registered Democrat, who hated President Donald Trump, denouncing his election and accusing him of building “concentration camps” on the border. He said on social media that he was a “leftist” and would support Elizabeth Warren, praising antifa and the Democratic Socialists of America. He had shown his psychotic tendencies while in high school, posting a “kill list” of male classmates and a “rape list” of female classmates, resulting in his suspension.

Pompeo Continues Anti-China Rant in Micronesia

Aug. 5 (EIRNS)—Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is in Micronesia today, meeting with the Federated States of Micronesia, the Marshall Islands and Palau. This is the first visit of a Secretary of State to these islands, with which the U.S. has a defense agreement known as Compacts of Free Association, granting the U.S. exclusive defense access. The Compact expires in 2023, and Pompeo is beginning negotiations to renew the agreement.

The region of these three contiguous areas combined is larger than the continental U.S., and is a major part of U.S. military domination of the Pacific region.

Hong Kong’s South China Morning Post reports: “Experts say Beijing has intensified efforts to court these nations, seeking to gain a stronger foothold in their strategic waters, even as Washington’s top diplomat makes his rounds.”

Under current terms, the U.S. military has exclusive access to the airspace and territorial waters of the three regions, in exchange for economic assistance.

President Donald Trump met with leaders of the region in the White House in May. Pompeo told the island leaders today: “Today, I am here to confirm the United States will help you protect your sovereignty, your security, your right to live in freedom and peace, … to sustain democracy in the face of Chinese efforts to redraw the Pacific.”

Derek Grossman, senior defense analyst at Rand Corporation in Washington, D.C., who wrote a forthcoming report on China’s influence in the region, mandated by the U.S. Congress, told SCMPthat the three regions “are essentially the core of the Pacific part of the U.S. Indo-Pacific strategy,” and that access to these waters allows the U.S. to project presence into the South China Sea and beyond. Grossman further said that Beijing, last week, contributed $2 million to Micronesia’s trust fund, “showing some skin in the game in the competition for influence in the region and seeking to undermine Pompeo’s visit.”

STRATEGIC WAR DANGER

Destabilization of Hong Kong Aimed at Breaking ‘One China-Two Systems’

Aug. 5 (EIRNS)—There was a third day of chaos in Hong Kong today, as the organizers of the riots had called for a “general strike.” Dozens of streets across the city were shut down, police stations attacked, fires set, and open clashes with police. Although they did not succeed in shutting down the airport as planned, Cathay Pacific did shut down all flights for Monday and Tuesday.

The rioters have given up their complaint about the extradition treaty, which Chief Executive Carrie Lam already pulled back, and are now demanding Lam’s resignation, while many are openly calling for breaking from China. Such calls are extremely dangerous, as China makes clear repeatedly, insisting that threats to “core interests” such as One China will be met by military force if necessary.

Lam held a press conference on Aug. 4 and did not mince words. She did not mention foreign support for the riots, but said that the “violent protesters are using the extradition bill to conceal ulterior motives,” and that if this continues, they will “push Hong Kong to the verge of a very dangerous situation.” She said that the “ulterior motives are going to destroy Hong Kong, and are a risk to ‘One Country, Two Systems.’ ” She said some rioters are calling it a “revolution,” and that “this is something of extreme importance that I hope every one of us will know.”

U.S. Sanctions against Iranian Foreign Minister Zarif Intended To Sink Diplomacy

Aug. 5 (EIRNS)—The U.S. imposition of sanctions on Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif makes little sense unless the intention behind them is to prevent the possibility of U.S. negotiations with Iran. Chas Freeman, a former U.S. ambassador to Saudi Arabia and well known for his blunt criticisms of U.S. foreign policy, said as much in an interview with Persia Digest published on Aug. 4.

“This appears to be a move by hardliners like Bolton and Pompeo to ensure that there is no bridge to a Trump meeting with Iranian leaders,” he said, and that the move is “designed to frustrate those pushing for diplomacy as opposed to pure coercion.”

The Iranian response to the sanctioning of Zarif has been a combination of anger, ridicule, and pity for the U.S.

“It is ridiculous to claim [that they want] to negotiate [with Iran] and at the same time they sanction the country’s foreign minister,” government spokesman Ali Rabiei said yesterday. “During a meeting with a senator [Rand Paul], they invited him to meet [Trump] and immediately [after that], they sanction him,” Rabiei continued, confirming the New Yorker article of Aug. 2 reporting that Zarif had been invited to the White House to meet President Donald Trump. Rabiei continued that “Zarif is in charge of foreign policy and in charge of public diplomacy and all kinds of diplomacy, and all diplomatic paths pass through his path.”

Ali Shamkhani, the Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, wrote yesterday that “Active and effective diplomacy of the Islamic Republic of Iran cannot be sanctioned, and neither Trump nor any of his allies could prevent the reflection of Iran’s expressive voice in the world,” reported Tasnim. In the article discussing various aspects of failure of the U.S. policy toward Iran, Shamkhani wrote: “By withdrawing from the JCPOA and adopting the policy of maximum pressure against Iran, Trump tried to humiliate his internal rivals and the international community to prove to everybody that he is a different person and could gain the most at the least cost by pursuing his own creative methods.”

Zarif, himself, also confirmed the New Yorker report on the invitation to the White House. “I was told in New York I would be sanctioned in two weeks unless I accepted that offer, which fortunately I did not,” he said, reported AFP.

U.S. and Turkey Bargain over Undermining Syria’s Sovereignty

Aug. 5 (EIRNS)—While the U.S. and Turkey are arguing about a so-called “safe zone” in northern Syria, lost in the reporting is that both countries are already violating Syrian sovereignty—Turkey with its multiple military operations in northern Aleppo province and with its support of the armed jihadi groups in Idlib province; and the U.S., which has had troops in eastern Syria for about four years, ostensibly to fight ISIS. All the while, both countries have been paying lip service to Syria’s territorial integrity while clearly having little intention of returning the territories they control back to the sovereignty of the Syrian government. Now, their zones of control are about to collide.

According to Turkey’s official Anadolu Agency, a U.S. military delegation is in Ankara trying to head off another Turkish invasion into Syria, this one along a stretch of the northern border between Kobani and Tel Abyad. The Turkish Defense Ministry reported in a statement that day one of the talks has concluded with the talks set to resume on Aug. 6. Anadolu gives little indication of what the discussion was about beyond the Turkish demand for a safe zone, but the Washington Post, in a report posted yesterday, said that the U.S. delegation would be bringing to Ankara a proposal for a joint U.S.-Turkish operation to secure a strip south of the Syria-Turkey border that would be about 9 miles deep and 87 miles long, and from which the Kurdish fighters would be withdrawn. The U.S. and Turkish militaries would destroy Kurdish fortifications and then jointly patrol the area, which would cover the middle part of the border. Turkey wants its “safe zone” to extend 20 miles deep and run the entire length of the border from the Euphrates to Iraq, and to control it itself.

The Post cites unnamed U.S., Turkish, Kurdish, and European officials who now say, despite the fact that Turkey has been threatening to take such action for two years, that the threat is real and imminent. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan made this quite clear in a speech in Bursa, yesterday.

“We entered Afrin, Jarabulus, and Al-Bab [in northern Syria], and now we’re going to enter east of the Euphrates,” he said, referring to two earlier Turkish incursions in Syria since 2016, Operations Euphrates Shield and Olive Branch. “We shared this [information] with the U.S. and Russia.” The Post reports that, if the Turks do invade, the U.S. cannot legally intervene on behalf of the Kurds, whose People’s Protection Unit (YPG) has had years of U.S. backing. The Turks are reported to have six combat brigades of assault troops along a 40 mile stretch of the border. The force is well equipped with armor and artillery and is likely too much for the YPG to successfully resist.

The Kurds, themselves, are warning that they don’t have the manpower to both fight off the Turks and also guard the 10,000 or so ISIS prisoners in their custody. “Either we will fight” the Turks “or guard” the prisoners, said Aldar Xelil, a leading Kurdish politician in northeast Syria. “We cannot do both together.”

THE NEW GLOBAL ECONOMIC ORDER

Moscow Sees Improved Prospects with New Kiev Administration

Aug. 5 (EIRNS)—The Russian daily newspaper Kommersant reported that Moscow perceives improved prospects with the newly-elected Ukraine administration of Volodymyr Zelensky, according to the Aug. 1 press review by TASS.

Kommersant reported that the fighting in Ukraine’s Donbas region may have finally seen the light at the end of the tunnel, since the Trilateral Contact Group comprised of representatives from Ukraine, Russia, and the OSCE for settling the crisis in eastern Ukraine, has reported unprecedented fulfillment of the ceasefire regime. Furthermore, as of July 31 negotiators have agreed on restoring a ruined bridge in Stanitsa Luhanskaya.

Following the July 31 Minsk, Belarus meeting of the Special Monitoring Mission to Ukraine (OCSE), OSCE Special Envoy Martin Sajdik announced that no civilians had been killed in the 10 days since the July 21 ceasefire. His observation was confirmed by Russian envoy to the talks Boris Gryzlov, who reported that it had been the calmest period on the contact line in the past five years,  and that the forces of the conflicting sides in Stanitsa Luhanskaya have been disengaged. The Contact Group’s next meeting is Aug. 21, where the parties will set exact dates for new disengagement of forces in Petrovskoye in the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic, and Zolotoye, in the self-proclaimed Luhansk People’s Republic.

SCIENCE AND INFRASTRUCTURE

8,700 Scientists Insist Argentina’s Scientific Infrastructure Be Restored, not Ravaged by Neoliberalism

Aug. 5 (EIRNS)—On July 31, some 8,700 Argentine scientists, researchers, and teachers issued a statement endorsing the presidential candidacy of Alberto Fernández, a former chief of staff to former President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner, who is running for vice president on the same ticket. The first round of presidential elections takes place in October.

The letter decries the dismemberment of Argentina’s scientific infrastructure under the neoliberal regime of Mauricio Macri who, since taking office in December of 2015, has brutally slashed the budget for every major scientific and educational institution, throwing scientists out on the street and forcing many to consider leaving the country, as they did in droves during the 1990s heyday of neoliberalism.

During his presidency, Macri has shut down the Science & Technology Ministry—not necessary, he said—which Alberto Fernández has promised to restore if elected. In their letter, the scientists said, “We want to contribute with our vote and voice, to an overwhelming electoral victory [of the Fernández ticket] to put a definite end to the era of Conservative Restoration begun in 2015 [with Macri’s election], which has condemned our country to backwardness, indebtedness, and poverty.” Scientists, they said, “wish to collaborate in the recovery and promotion of a model of productive and socio-cultural development, which promotes inclusion and social justice, based on science, technology and knowledge produced in our country.”

In a recent statement, reported by Página 12 on July 14, Alberto Fernández emphasized that “the richest societies aren’t those that have oil—but rather they are the ones that possess knowledge. They are the ones that never renounced science and technology, and which are ashamed when a scientist leaves because he has no place in which to advance his research.”

Big Financiers Give Big Bucks To Keep Extinction Rebellion Alive

Aug. 5 (EIRNS)—Breitbart published an article revealing documents naming the big funders of the Extinction Rebellion. An anonymous source claims to have extracted, but not hacked, lots of documents from Extinction Rebellion’s computer database and has put them up online.

Among the donors are George Soros; Vivienne Westwood’s son Joe Corré; the European Climate Foundation; Greenpeace; the Tides Foundation; and a Swiss asset management company, called Furka Holdings. Here is a breakdown of some of the funding.

George Soros was on the list but the amount he donated was blacked out.

 Greenpeace gave £10,000.

Tides Foundation, an American foundation which has been funding environmentalism for decades gave £7,454.

Joe Corré gave £50,000. Corré is the son of the lunatic eco-warrior and dress designer, Vivienne Westwood, and onetime manager of the Sex Pistols, who helped invent punk rock. Both he and his mother are funders of the British Green Party.

Furka Holdings AG gave £50,000. This is little more than a post office box company attached to a Swiss bank account. It is based in the ski resort of Andermatt and is named after the Furka Pass in the surrounding mountains. It is owned by British national Alasdair Breach, who is founder and partner in the London-based hedge fund Gemsstock, named after a mountain near Andermatt, where Breach also owns a house. With nearly £1.4 billion under management, it is one of the largest macro hedge funds in the City of London. Breitbart writes that Breach has Russian banking connections, but fails to mention that it was from Goldman Sachs and UBS, for which he was working in Russia. Gemsstock claims it has no investments in Russia. According to his own CV, Breach is the only shareholder in Furka, confirmed by its entry in the Swiss commercial registry. He claims he uses it to manage his parents’ and friends’ money. An internet search on Breach did not come up with his having any connections or even interest in climate change. It is not to be excluded that he passed the donation through his company for one of his “friends.”

European Climate Foundation gave £20,000. The ECF is one of Europe’s most important funders of climate change initiatives. It has offices in London, Berlin, The Hague, Paris, Brussels, and Warsaw. Among its funders can be found the Rockefeller Brothers Fund, Bloomberg Philanthropies, Children’s Investment Fund and the Growald Family Fund. The Growald Family Fund was founded and is led by Paul Growald, who started his career as public relations representative for the evil Paul R. Ehrlich.

Children’s Investment Fund Foundation gave £121,140. This is the foundation of a notorious hedge fund founded and run by Sir Chris Hohn. The CEO of the foundation is Kate Hampton, who also serves as vice chair of the European Climate Foundation. According to her CV on the ECF site, “Hampton was the first CIFF Executive Director for Climate Change,” for seven years. “CIFF is now one of the world’s leading climate philanthropies.” She is also on the board of the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), and the Fundación Climática de México.

Wilbur Ross Visits Brazil and Argentina, Maps Venezuela ‘Rescue Plan’ for Wall Street and London

Aug. 5 (EIRNS)—U.S. Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross traveled to Brazil and Argentina at the end of last week, to stress the importance of closer U.S. political and trade ties with both nations and enlist their help in planning Venezuela’s economic reconstruction, assuming that current President Nicolas Maduro will soon be gone.

Ross’s trip comes exactly a week after Chinese State Councillor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi was warmly received in Brasilia and discussed deepening bilateral cooperation in several areas. U.S. concern over Brazil’s close working relationship with China is reflected in the Trump Administration’s July 31 announcement that it has officially designated Brazil a “non-NATO” U.S. ally, involving closer cooperation in military and strategic matters. The only other such ally in Ibero-America is Colombia, whose President Ivan Duque has just concluded an exciting trip to China!

What Ross outlined for Venezuela is a Wall Street or City of London speculator’s wet-dream—total privatization of the country’s major resources, particularly oil and gas, and infrastructure building to be carried out by a “revitalized” private sector and its international private allies. The IMF, World Bank, and Inter-American Development Bank (IADB) are mobilized to cough up the $60-$70 billion, or more, for “rescuing” Venezuela’s economy on behalf of private predators; the “socialist” state sector is to disappear.

Ross and National Security Adviser John Bolton are to present this program on Aug. 6 in Lima, Peru at the “International Conference on Democracy in Venezuela,” sponsored by the Lima Group. In fact,American Shipper reported Aug. 2, at the Venezuela Infrastructure Breakfast in Brazil on Aug. 1, Ross announced that John Bolton had specifically requested the Commerce Department to produce a Venezuela program, and that more than 14 federal agencies and 100 government personnel had worked for four months to do so. Notably, it includes 20 crucial infrastructure projects which China and the U.S. could ideally collaborate on in the context of the Belt and Road Initiative, were President Donald Trump freed to make such a decision.

Diario las Américas reported Aug. 2 that these include rebuilding the giant Guri hydroelectric dam, revitalizing oil production in the Orinoco Basin, improving the national passenger transportation system, and rebuilding the José oil port. Several projects for improving ports or transportation are intended to facilitate raw materials’ extraction.
