Major Media Praise Mad Dog Mattis

by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.org – Home – Stephen Lendman)

The New York Times praised his “stability” as a counterweight “to an unpredictable president.”

The neocon/CIA-connected Washington Post called him “a bulwark against Trump’s isolationist impulses (sic) and more extreme proposals,” calling him “a calm “reassurer-in-chief…”

The Wall Street Journal said he’s “a steadying influence who offered a sense of continuity.”

Other Western print and electronic media made similar comments – ignoring Mattis’ horrific war crimes as a military commander. More on them below.

NYT editors have been militantly hostile toward Trump since he triumphed over the most recklessly dangerous presidential aspirant in US history.

They turned truth on its head calling Hillary “one of the most broadly and deeply qualified presidential candidates in modern history” – polar opposite cold, hard reality.

Throughout the 2016 campaign and throughout Trump’s tenure, they’ve bashed him relentlessly, mostly for the wrong reasons, ignoring the most important right ones.

In the wake of Mattis’ announced departure as US war secretary next year, a disinformation editorial asked: “Who will protect America now?

Times editors, columnists, correspondents, and contributors consistently ignore Washington’s destructive imperial agenda under Republicans, undemocratic Dems, and appointed officials.

In their editorial and earlier, Times editors ignored endless US wars of aggression against sovereign states threatening no one – surely not America or its allies.

They said nothing about US support for ISIS and other jihadists, using them as proxy forces in Syria, Iraq, Yemen, Afghanistan, Libya, the Philippines, and elsewhere.

The were silent about Mattis’ war crimes as CENTCOM commander, head of US Joint Forces Command, Supreme Allied Commander Transformation, Marine Expeditionary Force commander, Marine Combat Development head, Marine Expeditionary Brigade commander, and head of the 7th Marine Regiment.

They ignored his once saying “it’s a lot of fun to fight…It’s fun to shoot some people. I’ll be right upfront with you. I like brawling.”

He earlier turned truth on its head, calling Iran the greatest threat to Middle East peace – a bald-faced lie. Iran hasn’t attacked another country in centuries. It threatens none now.

Israel threatens the entire region and beyond. The US threatens everyone everywhere because of “mad dog” political and military officials

Like virtually everyone in Washington, Mattis is militantly hostile to Russia. He lied claiming Putin pursues revanchism and belligerence.

During Bush/Cheney’s naked aggression on Iraq in 2003, Mattis commanded the invasion and assault on Fallujah – bearing full responsibility for mass slaughter, arbitrary arrests, torture, humiliation, and other forms of abuse against city residents.

His ordered siege denied them food, medicines, and other essentials to life – a flagrant Fourth Geneva violation, a Nuremberg-level high crime.

Random bombing and rocket fire he ordered (including use of banned cluster bombs, white phosphorous, and other illegal munitions), massacred or wounded countless thousands of civilians, many thousands more displaced, homes and other property destroyed – major war crimes gone unpunished.

He ordered snipers to lethally shoot “any moving body” – including noncombatant men, women, children, the elderly and infirm.

He was in charge of two Fallujah battles – from April 4, 2003 – May 1, and from November 7 – December 23.

Throughout and between them, he ordered US forces to terror-bomb residential and other non-military-related targets – strictly forbidden under international law.

Mattis was a key part of Washington’s war of aggression on Iraq, one of history’s great crimes.

According to Nuremberg Principles, he’s accountable for high crimes of war, against humanity and genocide – and a whole lot more, including vast environmental contamination, and countless numbers of Iraqis contracting cancer and other deadly diseases from toxins in the country’s air, water and soil.

He was awarded numerous medals and other honors for major war crimes gone unpunished.

Times editors ignored them earlier and now. They blasted Trump’s announcement on Syria as “impulsive…abrupt and dangerous…detached from any broader strategic context or any public rationale, sow(ing) new uncertainty about America’s commitment to the Middle East, its willingness to be a global leader and Mr. Trump’s role as commander in chief.”

The Times and other Western media notoriously support and cheerlead all US wars of aggression instead of condemning them.

They reject the notion of turning a page for peace in any active US war theater. They pretend US naked aggression is righteous, that high crimes of war and against humanity are OK, that might justifies right.

They endorse premeditated wars against nations threatening no one, falsely claiming they’re all about humanitarian intervention and responsibility to protect.

They ignore millions of casualties and vast destruction from US wars post-9/11 alone. They turn a blind eye to countless trillions of dollars in waste, fraud and abuse, along with most US discretionary spending going for naked aggression and corporate handouts – at the expense of vital homeland needs gone begging.

Times editors falsely called withdrawal from Syria “a gift to Vladimir Putin,” claiming he aims “to supplant American influence in the region…”

He aims for regional peace and the defeat of US-supported terrorists. Times editors oppose both objectives.

They claimed pulling US forces out of Syria “make(s) it harder (to increase) ‘maximum pressure’ on Iran” – the region’s leading supporter of peace and stability they never explain.

“The American withdrawal worries Israel,” they roared – along with the US, the nation most responsible for regional wars and chaos against Palestinians and neighboring states.

The Times is consistently on the wrong side of major geopolitical issues – to its disgrace.

The same goes for all other major  print and electronic Western media – supporting wrong over right, featuring disinformation and Big Lies over journalism the way it’s supposed to be.
