VIDEO: This One Mental Trick Can Help You Defeat Anger

Unmasking Anger!

Have you ever felt yourself losing control to your anger? Have you ever wondered where your anger is coming from? Are you interested in learning tools and techniques on how to confront a loved one when they are expressing anger towards you? If so, this video will definitely add value to you! Enjoy 🙂

Posted by Ben Stone Speaks on Wednesday, March 8, 2017

Imagine you have an open wound on your hand as someone comes to shake it. What do you feel?  Pain!

The pain is not being caused by the person shaking your hand.  The pain is coming from your wound and is being activated by the person shaking your hand.

The people in your life have wounds as do you.  When someone becomes angry with you there is a very good chance you have unintentionally touched one of their wounds.  Where do wounds come from?

Some come from our childhood while others come from our previous relationships.  All of our wounds are emanating from emotional distress we have felt in our past.  What can you do when you realize you may have touched a wound of a loved one?

When a wound is being touched it can reawaken within a person feelings of being unloved, devalued, guilty, ashamed, rejected, abandoned, etc.  Given the unpleasant nature of these emotions most people resort to anger.

Anger serves as a quick fix to hide and conceal the hurt that an individual is feeling.  Similar to a drug, anger helps disguise a person’s problems even from themselves.

The person who is lashing out at you in anger doesn’t want to hurt you – they unconsciously want to protect themselves from feeling hurt.

Once you are able to see your wife, husband, boyfriend, girlfriend, child, or parent for who they truly are – a hurt person rather than an angry person – you will be ready to confront the situation in a much more effective way.

Instead of defending yourself and retaliating with anger (which never works), you can strive to help them understand the pain they are feeling.  You can strive to help them discover the origin of their wounds.

Show them support by validating their emotions as opposed to shutting them down.  Ask them from a place of love and care:  Why are you feeling upset?

This question may cause them to re-examine their own role in the situation.  Perhaps they will share with you what it is you did that caused them to feel hurt.  Perhaps after introspection they will discover that you were not the only cause for their pain.  Perhaps they will realize they have some unresolved “issues” inside of themselves.

It is not our job to to do the “moral inventory” of others.  It is our job to improve ourselves and do our best to support the people we love to do the same.

We are all human beings and we all make mistakes.  In my own relationship, I have failed several times in applying the insights I have shared with you today.

But I can tell you that when I did choose to see my girlfriend as hurt as opposed to angry, when I did choose to try to understand as opposed to fight back, not only did I save myself from an unnecessary headache and make her feel supported – but I felt a deeper and closer connection with her.

This week do not be fooled by anger.  Remember: Anger is a mask for negative emotions that a person must embrace and confront in order to heal themselves.

Ohio Police Begin Charging Drug Overdose Survivors With ‘Inducing Panic’

Posted: 09 Mar 2017 02:37 AM PST

We Are Change

At least 7 people in Ohio have already been charged with inducing panic so far.

A shocking new law in an Ohio town called Washington Court House has begun charging survivors of drug overdose with “inducing panic.”

Under the law, first responders who administer a heroin overdose drug called naloxone would be expected to ask police to charge the survivors, who are struggling with addiction or attempting suicide, with a crime.

The charge is a misdemeanor and can result in a $1,000 fine and a potential of up to 180 days in jail.

The report did not note if any other drug overdoses would result in a charge.

“It gives us the ability to keep an eye on them, to offer them assistance and to know who has overdosed,” City Attorney Mark Pitsick told reporters, according to a local ABC6OnYourSide. “Sometimes we can’t even track who has overdosed.”

ABC6 reported that people who call 911 for an overdose, as well as the people with the victim, will not be charged.

“Service. Follow up. Just them understanding that people do care. We are here to help. We are not here to put them in jail,” said Pitsick.

“They don’t have hope to begin with, but helping them we hope we are giving them the ability to turn their lives around.”

Still, there is the worry that addicts being charged for an overdose will discourage them from seeking immediate medical attention which could result in their possible death.

Is this is just another way for the government to milk more money out of struggling Americans?

The new strategy to combat drug addiction began last month and police have already issued summonses to at least seven people for inducing panic,  according to AP.

In Fayetteville County, home to Washington Court House, a 10-day period saw 30 suspected overdoses earlier this year, six of which ended in death. That tragedy spurred officials to take a hardline approach to combating addiction CSMonitor reported.

What do you think about charging drug overdose survivors with “inducing panic?”

Do you feel it will help the war on drugs?

Canada Extends Military Mission In Ukraine For Additional Two Years

Posted: 09 Mar 2017 02:18 AM PST

We Are Change

Article via Geopolitics Alert

The Canadian government has officially announced the extension of their military training mission in Ukraine until 2019, despite some Russophobes warning of possible future interference.

Canadian Foreign Affairs Minister Chrystia Freeland announced yesterday that Canada was officially extending the timeline of their military’s presence in Ukraine until March of 2019.

Freeland told reporters that “The purpose of the UNIFIER operation is to support Ukraine forces by providing military instruction and capacity building in order to maintain the sovereignty of Ukraine.” She then went on to say that Ukraine is “an important partner to Canada” and that her government would “continue to support its efforts for democracy and economic growth.”

The presence of 200 Canadian troops, who were deployed under Conservative leadership prior to Justin Trudeau, is in Freeland’s words aimed at countering “further Russian aggression.”

These views were echoed by Canadian Defense Minister Harjit Sajjan who said his country would “continue to advance democracy, human rights and rule of law and military assistance.” Since Canada is also backing US and European claims that Russia is controlling rebels in east Ukraine, Sajjan said it was somehow in Canada’s interest to provide crucial assistance “for a sovereign, secure and stable Ukraine.”

Canada is one of the original partners with the US and the U.K. that originally sent troops to support the junta government in Kiev in 2015, following the Russian annexation of Crimea. Canada also has troops alongside US forces in Latvia as well as a Navy frigate in the Black Sea patrolling with the US led NATO mission there.

Sajjan said these actions were justified in “sending a strong message of deterrence” to Russia. Since 2015, Canada has been involved in training somewhere around 3,200 Ukrainian soldiers. The Canadian plan to continue to prop up the increasingly embattled government Kiev is of course being applauded by NATO but has raised some concerns even among the officials announcing it yesterday.

Warnings of “Russian Interference” in Canada

Freeland, who has a Ukrainian grandfather and is actually barred from entering Russia, in the same press conference warned that Canada may need to expect Russian interference similar to the kind US intelligence said took place during the presidential elections.

Freeland parroted the US intelligence community line that it is apparently “public knowledge that there have been efforts…by Russia to destabilize the U.S. political system.” Accepting that statement as true is what most likely lead Freeland to say that she thinks “that Canadians and, indeed, other Western countries should be prepared for similar efforts to be directed at us.”

Sajjan also blamed Russia for illegally interfering in western countries and said it was their “actions that has caused us to do this — Crimea, Ukraine and some of the other actions that they have taken…It is their action(s) that are making us respond in this manner.” Kiev was originally seeking weapons from Canada, rather than an extension of the training operation, by either way the Ukrainian ambassador Andriy Shevchenko seemed pleased and said the new commitment sent “very powerful message of global leadership in dealing with global threats.”

However, Shevchenko and Freeland agreed that, despite this concern, Canada is “strong enough to defend against that kind of information attacks.”

Russian Embassy Responds

Russia’s Canadian embassy released a statement shortly after the announcement warning that “The Canadian government’s decision to extend the military mission in Ukraine is counterproductive and does not facilitate intra-Ukrainian political process, including direct dialogue between Kiev and Donbas, as prescribed by the Minsk accords.”

Russia’s statement went on to state that if Canada is going to be involved at all, the only role they should be filling is to convince their allies in Kiev to abide by the Minsk peace accords they signed on to but have continued to violate. This would include getting Kiev to reign in their right wing paramilitaries, who have been denounced by western partners but still have free reign over sections of the front line in east Ukraine.

Canada is now obviously following the US line that all the problems in Ukraine (as well as their own possible future problems at home) are all the fault of the Russian boogeyman. As we’ve covered before, when it comes to Ukraine, even the “Russian puppet regime” of Donald Trump continues to hold up the unpopular oligarch junta in Kiev, even if that means lying to the international community. Now it seems as if Canada is apparently ready to whole heartedly jump on the Russian scapegoat bandwagon as well.

Houthis: U.S. Can’t Eliminate Al-Qaeda While Supporting Its Sponsors

Posted: 09 Mar 2017 02:11 AM PST

We Are Change

Article via Geopolitics Alert

Last week Saudi Arabia and the United States dropped nearly 300 airstrikes on Yemen. The United States maintains that the purpose is to eliminate al-Qaeda in Yemen. But since the US supports al-Qaeda’s allies like Saudi Arabia, the Houthis now remind Washington that they cannot eliminate al-Qaeda until they partner with forces that actually want to eliminate the terror group.

Last week, the US and Saudi Arabia both showered Yemen with airstrikes. On paper, these strikes had two very different targets. Washington’s intended target was al-Qaeda. Saudi Arabia’s target was Popular Resistance locations, the Houthis, and pretty much everything in between. Well, everything besides al-Qaeda locations, of course.

READ MORE: Is the US Targeting al-Qaeda or the Houthis?

The United States might claim they are targeting al-Qaeda positions. But they aren’t making any effort to strike the large swathes of land al-Qaeda controls in former South Yemen. Instead they are only focusing on bombing locations contested between Houthi and al-Qaeda forces. Even prompting one journalist to out-right accuse the United States of specifically targeting the Houthis. This is not a far-fetched suggestion at all.

Green: Houthis, White: al-Qaeda, Red: Saudi-backed forces. Black triangle represents area of US air strikes.

Being an anti-imperialist force, the Revolutionary Committee (which includes the Houthis) has condemned both Saudi and US airstrikes and all violence carried out by these powers on Yemeni soil.

“The military operations carried out by the US warplanes that had claimed to fight al-Qaeda elements in Bayda, Abyan and Shabwah provinces were a condemnable and unacceptable step as they violate the sovereignty of the Republic of Yemen.” The Revolutionary Committee said in a statement to Saba News Agency.

Furthermore, the Houthis have reminded the United States that if they want to eliminate al-Qaeda, they must cooperate with other groups who actually seek to eliminate the terrorist group.

“The attacks will never be fruitful without security and intelligence cooperation with our authorities which fight Al-Qaeda and Daesh. [the current US operation] will not achieve their goals because they are based on false information supplied by the sponsors of Al-Qaeda and its sisters.” The Houthis said as reported by Anadolu News Agency.

Indeed, if the United States wants to eliminate al-Qaeda in Yemen, then they can’t share intelligence and cooperate with states that are responsible for helping support al-Qaeda and other terrorist organizations. For all intents and purposes, al-Qaeda is a US ally in Yemen. The terror group is also fighting the Houthis and Popular Resistance forces. This makes them a de facto ally of Saudi Arabia.

In addition to Saudi Arabia, the US-coalition in Yemen includes Qatar and the UAE among others. States which Hilary Clinton herself admitted provide “clandestine support” for groups like ISIS and al-Qaeda. Saudi Arabia also admits that some 2 thousand Saudi citizens are fighting abroad in terror groups. Many are in Syria, but many are probably also in Yemen.

If the United States actually wants to eliminate al-Qaeda– like they claim– then why are they supporting and cooperating with al-Qaeda’s allies?

This Elementary School Banned Homework And The Results Were Amazing

The kids are choosing to read daily at home instead.

Article via True Activist

When Mark Trifilio, Principal of the public pre-K-5th grade Orchard School in Vermont, took a good look at his students and the way they were learning, he realized that the inconsistencies with assigning homework might be hindering students rather than helping them. Since different teachers in the same grade often have separate lesson plans and homework goals, the children were being unfairly subjected to varying homework loads that weighed them down.

After considering the issue for quite some time, and taking a look at some studies that suggested that homework might not be necessary, he decided to take it up with the school’s 40 educators at a meeting prior to the beginning of the school year. He put the decision up for a vote and was astonished at the response: all 40 unanimously voted in favor of doing away with homework.

They decided to trial the idea by banning homework for all grades but encouraging students to read at home and play outside. Studies showed that the only beneficial after-school work was reading at home, so each grade has a list of suggested books but no mandatory reading log.

Credit: @OrchardVT/Twitter

The rules on the school’s website are as follows:

No Homework Policy
Orchard School Homework Information
Student’s Daily Home Assignment

1. Read just-right books every night —
(and have your parents read to you, too).
2. Get outside and play —
that does not mean more screen time.
3. Eat dinner with your family —
and help out with setting and cleaning up.
4. Get a good night’s sleep.

It’s been six months since the inception of the program and the results have been better than expected. The students have reportedly not suffered at all academically and, based on a survey that Trifilio sent home, most parents have appreciated the lack of workload and the focus on reading and playing. Some parents have even reported that their children have improved their reading skills and now no longer need help with at-home reading, going so far as to enjoy that time that they used to dread.

One parent told the Associated Press, “I think it gives kids a lot time for mental and physical rest which I think is super important. I think it’s really good for parent-teacher-student relations in all directions and I think it just gives kids a chance to use their time for what their passionate and excited about.”

The biggest worry amongst parents and educators is that this approach wouldn’t prepare the children for long-term projects and the daily workload that comes with attending junior high and beyond. Trifilio is working on a plan to address this issue by assigning bigger projects so that the students understand the essence of planning and working towards an educational goal.

This idea is certainly still being run as a trial, but Orchard School isn’t the only one trying the new method. Numerous schools across the country have taken note of the success amongst other schools and have implemented similar plans in order to ensure the success of their students.

CIA: WikiLeaks Disclosures Help ‘Adversaries’

Posted: 09 Mar 2017 01:54 AM PST

We Are Change

Article via Antiwar

US intelligence officials are scrambling to address the fallout of what some are describing as the biggest leak of government secrets in nearly four years. That may not sound like a very long time, but the US has lost a lot of very embarrassing data related to its assorted crimes in recent years.

The reaction hasn’t changed though, with CIA officials declaring that WikiLeaks is helping “America’s adversaries” by disclosing the massive CIA surveillance scheme, which they said not only endangers US personnel, but in revealing how many technological flaws the CIA discovered and never reported, also might give other nations access to those same exploits to target Americans with.

CIA officials don’t really know yet exactly how much was lost, as WikiLeaks has only released the first of several years of documents. Still, they are said to be in “damage control” mode, scrambling to try to figure out where the leaks came from, and trying to control the narrative, and convince Americans to be more mad at WikiLeaks for telling them things, than at the CIA for doing those things.

This of course neatly echoes the Chelsea Manning disclosures of Pentagon war-crimes, the revelation of which officials insisted put the troops in danger, and Edward Snowden’s revelation of wholesale illegal surveillance by the NSA in 2013, which officials complained warned everybody to communicate more securely, and in ways less readily surveilled.

In each case, the narrative was that letting the public know about the US government’s many, many misdeeds was itself the problem, and that the misdeeds themselves would’ve been fine if we’d never known about them. This of course has fueled the federal government’s recent obsession with secrecy, since the only alternative would be to always act within the law, which they naturally consider no alternative at all.

Who? Wikipedia Deletes ‘7th Floor Group,’ FBI Removes The Evidence

Posted: 09 Mar 2017 12:00 AM PST

We Are Change

UPDATE: The FBI removed the evidence and should’ve known that the Internet can do this.

“There was a powerful group of very high-ranking STATE officials that some referred to as ‘The 7th Floor Group’ or ‘The Shadow Government.’ This group met every Wednesday afternoon to discuss the FOIA process, Congressional records, and everything CLINTON-related to FOIA/Congressional inquiries,” the FBI’s summary said.

The 7th Floor Group is a group of top US State Department officials who met regularly on the 7th floor of the Harry S. Truman Building in Washington, DC, referred to by the FBI as a “shadow government” inside the State Department.

[Editor: You may notice the page linked above no longer exists.]

Who? Wikipedia had a page for a few days in 2016, but it was deleted.

The group was exposed on 17 October 2016 by a reference in an FBI investigation report arising from the Hillary Clinton email controversy. Interest has been heightened by the fact that FBI documents refer to it as a “shadow government” inside the US State Department.

As of November 2016, only one other reference to the group is known in the public record, an email by Roberta S. Jacobson to her ” 7th floor colleagues.”

The 7th Floor Group met on Wednesdays, and discussed FOIA requests and the Congressional record in order to contain particularly sensitive information, and how best to release other information. CNBC reported in October 2016 that the group had “argued for a Clinton document release to be conducted all at once “for coordination purposes” instead of on a rolling basis as would normally be the case.”

Censorship of official reports

A 2015 report for The Washington Examiner was entitled “State Department Inspector General officials edited out passages of a high-profile report in [February] 2013 that could have embarrassed Hillary Clinton just days before she quit President Obama’s Cabinet.” This compared a report published in 2013 with earlier drafts that were provided by whistleblower Richard Higbie.

The Examiner states that “The unexplained gaps in the final version, and the removal of passages that would have damaged the State Department, call into question the independence of Harold Geisel, who was State’s temporary inspector general throughout Clinton’s four years at the head of the department.”

One such passage, present in the draft but not in the final report states that “Sources reported that a senior ‘7th Floor’ Department official ordered [diplomatic security] to stop the investigation of an ambassador accused of pedophilia, and another such senior official had [diplomatic security] stop an investigation of an ambassador-designate.”

The Secretary’s suite was a Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility which also had a DSS security detachment outside of the office.

Meetings are attended by the Secretary of State John Kerry, Deputy Chief of Staff Jennifer Stout, Deputy Secretary of State for Management and Resources, Kennedy, Assistant Secretary Julia Frifield, and unnamed members of the Office of the Legal Adviser.

Hillary Clinton is not known to attend the meetings, but this is a reasonable inference from the fact that some names were redacted from the FBI document, and the fact that her office was also located on the 7th Floor of the US State Department Headquarters, where she is known to have met with her top advisers, including Huma Abedin and Cheryl Mills.

The group appears to have been disbanded by Donald Trump’s administration. On 17 February 2017, CBS reported that “Much of seventh-floor staff, who work for the Deputy Secretary of State for Management and Resources and the Counselor offices, were told today that their services were no longer needed.”

DAPL Oil To Begin Flowing Within Days After Judge Rules Against Tribe

Posted: 08 Mar 2017 04:40 PM PST

We Are Change

Article via The Anti-Media

With oil slated to begin flowing through the Dakota Access Pipeline (DAPL) within weeks or even days, another attempt to block the controversial pipeline has been squashed. On Tuesday, a federal judge in Washington D.C. denied a request from the Cheyenne River Sioux tribe to halt the construction of the pipeline based on religious grounds.

The DAPL, alternatively known as the Bakken Pipeline, is owned by Dallas, Texas-based corporation Energy Transfer Partners, L.P., which created the subsidiary Dakota Access LLC. The pipeline will stretch 1,172 miles upon completion and transport crude oil from the Bakken fields of North Dakota to Patoka, Illinois. The project is set to cross the Missouri River not far from the Standing Rock Sioux Reservation in North Dakota. The Oceti Sakowin, Sacred Stone, and Red Warrior camps were formed in opposition to the pipeline due to threats to sacred sites and the Missouri River.

U.S. District Judge James Boasberg issued a 38-page ruling denying the Sioux’s request after examining the claims that the DAPL was the fulfillment of tribal prophecy about the rise of a “black snake” that would destroy Lakota homeland and poison the environment. The Cheyenne River Sioux argued that the presence of oil flowing underneath Lake Oahe would cause damage to sacred sites. Boasberg disagreed with the Sioux’s arguments, stating that, “only once Dakota Access had built up to the water’s edge and the Corps had granted the easement to proceed did Cheyenne River inform Defendants that the pipeline was the realization of a long-held prophecy about a Black Snake and that the mere presence of oil in the pipeline under the lakebed would interfere with the Tribe’s members’ ability to engage in important religious practices.

According to Boasberg, this meant the tribe waited too long to raise a claim under the Religious Freedom Restoration Act. Courthouse News reports:

“Though the tribe did tell the Army Corps of Engineers that the pipeline could affect sacred sites, which included water, it failed to specifically address religious issues, according to the ruling.

“There is no mention of the black snake prophecy, the court found, in a 2016 declaration that the Cheyenne’s environmental director and research specialist filed when the tribe joined the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe’s motion for preliminary injunction.”

Boasberg also stated that the tribes failed to mention that, from their religious perspective, the presence of oil flowing would taint the water. “The court, accordingly, concludes that defendants have shown that the tribe inexcusably delayed in voicing its RFRA [Religious Freedom and Restoration Act] objection,” he ruled. The judge also stated that the prophecy claims are questionable because there was not a clear record of whether the prophecy was made before the creation of Lake Oahe nearly 60 years ago, nor was it apparent why the tribe did not fight the creation of railroads and other pipelines crossing the area.

Nicole Ducheneaux, an attorney for the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe, told Courthouse News that the ruling is another example of “a continued misunderstanding of American Indian religious beliefs and principles by the United States and its institutions.“ Ducheneaux stated that the legal battle was not over, but was instead a part of “a much broader legal fight against the Corps’ authorization of this pipeline under the sacred waters of the Missouri River.

Despite the judge’s comments, the project has been opposed on cultural, spiritual, and historical grounds by a great number of professionals from a variety of fields. In October 2016, a group of more than 100 scientists from universities across the United States and other regions issued an open letter warning about the dangers of the pipeline. Published in the journal Science, the letter was authored by Stephanie Januchowski-Hartley (PhD, Universite Paul Sabatier in France), Anne Hilborn, PhD Candidate at Virginia Tech) Katherine Crocker (PhD Candidate at University of Michigan), and Asia Murphy (PhD candidate at University of Pennsylvania).

We as scientists are concerned about the potential local and regional impacts from the DAPL, which is symptomatic of the United States’ continued dependence on fossil fuels in the face of predicted broad-scale social and ecological impacts from global climate change,” the letter stated. “We support halting any construction of the DAPL until revised environmental and cultural assessments are carried out as requested by Standing Rock Sioux Tribe. ”

Only weeks before that letter was issued, opponents of the pipeline also garnered support from a coalition of more than 1,200 archaeologists, museum directors, and historians. The coalition spoke to the United Nations and condemned the destruction of sacred sites during the construction of the pipeline. Ultimately, the letters of support and condemnation did not stop the march of the DAPL.

In early February, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announced they had concluded their review of the Dakota Access Pipeline and would approve the final easement under Lake Oahe. The Corps will grant the easement for 30 years. The easement, which has been the center of resistance and conflict since last summer, is slated to go under Lake Oahe near the Standing Rock Sioux reservation.

This decision reverses a previous decision made during the Obama administration that called for exploring alternative routes and conducting an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS). Beginning January 18, the Corps began collecting public comments regarding the easement. The rejection of the EIS and approval of the easement under Lake Oahe came after President Donald Trump signed executive actions to advance construction on January 24.

Following the decision, Dallas Goldtooth — the son of Tom Goldtooth with Indigenous Environmental Network — called on water protectors to continue campaigns of divestment to protest Army Corps of Engineer offices, the banks, and other crucial points of support for the pipeline around the United States. Goldtooth also called for pipeline opponents to stop the pipeline at all costs, whether or not they can make it to Standing Rock.

As many supporters of the Standing Rock Sioux, the Cheyenne River Sioux, and other water protectors have stated, the fight against the DAPL and against unsustainable, destructive technologies and fuels is far from over. The movement reignited native activist movements from around the world and helped many observers come to understand that the fight for the planet and the scarce resources is bigger than just one group of people or ideal. It is a cause that has the power to unite people of all colors, nations, tribes, and backgrounds. Where the movement for a healthy planet and a world free of statism goes from here depends on each of us.
