First of all you should know Publix is the largest employee owned company in the United States, and one of the 10 of the largest supermarket chains in the US. As such it reflects the level of service.

Employees and former employees currently own 80% of the company and the remaining 20% is owned by the George Jenkins family the founder of the company.

Just yesterday I was at my neighborhood store for a milk and bread run.1 gallon of milk, and a small bag with bread and my candy bar treat. The young man that bagged my groceries insisted on carrying my bags to the car while holding an umbrella over me because it was sprinkling.

For most of us native Floridians its the first grocery store we visited as a child, where many of us had our first job, and the one we still choose above all others.

I can honestly say in the 5 + years my husband and I spent traveling through 48 of 50 states, and many different grocery stores excursions by far Publix was and remains the best.

So who owns Publix? It could be that nice young person that lives down the street that checks you out or bags your groceries, or it could be that older neighbor that used to work there when younger.

Rouses Markets Named 2025 Top Workplace USA

We’re proud to share that Rouses Markets has been named 2025 Top Workplace USA by USA Today — national recognition based entirely on feedback from our own team members. It’s especially meaningful as we celebrate our 65th year in business.

“Being named a Top Workplace USA 2025 is a huge honor, especially since it comes straight from our team members. We won for our region in 2024, and to now be recognized nationally is something we’re really proud of. Our team is at the heart of Rouses – some have been with us their whole careers, while others are just getting started — but they all share a passion for what we do. They’re the reason Rouses feels like home. It means a lot to know they consider Rouses the best place to work. And just as important, we truly appreciate that you — our customers — keep voting us the best grocery store on the Gulf Coast year after year. We serve over a million customers every week, and we don’t take that for granted. Thank you for choosing Rouses.”
