NY Times:
Despite Tensions, Salzburg Remains a Crammed Summer StageSalzburg’s bounty of nearly 200 opera, concert and theater performances, continuing this year through Aug. 31, is so intoxicating that it can lead to some dizzying sprints.
“… one of the world’s most important festivals for opera, music and drama. The wide-ranging programme includes classics and world-famous artists as well as a varied programme for young people.”
Salzburg 2023 — hyped up, as usual, by the degenerate artsy-fartsy types at “the paper of record” — includes 179 performances at 15 different venues, with shows ranging from “classical interpretations” to “avant-garde experimentation.” In other words, the pricey festival features the bastardization of the classical by mixing it with “interpretive” and “experimental” modern stuff. Instead of just leaving well enough alone, Salzburg is sort of like taking a piss inside of a decanter half-filled with just-poured fine wine — and then calling it “cutting edge” as you sip it while pretending not to notice the stanky-ass aftertaste.

* Editor’s Note: Hat tip to reader Gary for pointing out that Salzburg was where Mozart was born and The Sound of Music was filmed.
Have a look at this 54 seconds of implied debauchery — enhanced by a gigantic falling screen / curtain (shocking, but nothing graphic) — and take special notice of the rousing closing applause from the “elites” in attendance.
* Editor’s Note: Hat tip to George from New Jersey for finding out that this ugly scene is from a warped adaptation of Macbeth — one of those “avant-garde experiments.”We’ll close this out with a few pictures worth a 1000 words each. You decide if this Satanic cannibalism stuff is real or just, “paranoid Q Anon conspiracy theory.”
