Dr Oz: Inside the Mind Of a Psychic

Dr. Oz has invited Long Island Medium, Theresa Caputo, on his show today to take part in a groundbreaking study of her brain. He watched as she did readings for a few people in the audience and then he hooked her up to a brain monitoring device that measured the different brain waves in her brain to see if the brainwaves were different when she was doing a reading and when she was sitting calmly.

Dr. Daniel Amen, a brain imaging specialist, said the device he used to monitor her brain activity looks at the electrical activity in her brain. When he gets the results he can look at the two different scans and see the difference.

Four Types Of Brain Waves

Dr. Oz said there are four types of brain waves:

• Beta Wave – This type of wave is when someone is very alert.
• Alpha Waves – This type of wave shows up when someone is focused.
• Theta Waves – These types of waves show up when someone is in a state of daydreaming.
• Delta Waves – These types of waves happen when your are in a dreamless sleep. This is a state when you are not aware of what is happening.

When the brain scan on Theresa Caputo reads her brain, it can pick up on these different types of brain waves and piece them all together to show a complete picture of what is happening.

When Dr. Amen took a scan of Caputo’s brain when she was not doing a reading he found that she had a lot of alpha waves. He said they were stronger than most other people’s when they are sitting calmly, adding that they are the perfect type of brain wave to have for someone who wants to meditate.

To see how her brain looked when she did a reading, Dr. Oz asked Caputo to talk with Rochelle during the commercial break. She did a reading for her and then sat back down. Dr. Oz then asked Caputo to sit very still and when she feels the spirits start coming to her, she should raise her finger slightly so as not to interfere with the results since muscle movements can interfere with brain waves.

As they waited for the spirits, Dr. Oz talked with Rochelle who said she was skeptical of the reading at first but in the end, any doubt she had was completely gone.

After she was contacted by a spirit, Dr. Amen said he found some interesting results with the brain scan. When she was sitting calmly, her alpha waves were very high but when she was contacted a spirit her alpha wave levels dropped off and both of her temporal lobes were activating making her delta waves skyrocket.

Dr. Amen explained that people who have strokes, have had a profound religious experience and people with anxiety will all experience a spike in delta brainwaves.

So what does it all mean? Is it proof she can really talk to the other side? While Dr. Oz said he was a very big skeptic before, he seemed to believe Caputo could talk to spirits.

Dr. Amen said when he read the results, he couldn’t believe it. He also said when he talked with Caputo at one point she knew things about him not many people know.
