Lawmakers Try to Ban Dishonorable Discharges for Troops Who Refuse Mandatory COVID-19 Vaccines

House lawmakers have backed legislation prohibiting dishonorable discharges for troops who refuse the COVID-19 vaccine, as the Navy gave its sailors 90 days to get the shot this week and the Army and Air Force were poised Thursday to enforce their own timetables.
Legislation sponsored by Rep. Mark Green, R-Tenn., an Army veteran, requires only honorable discharges for anyone who is separated from the military over refusing to be vaccinated. It was added to the fiscal 2022 defense authorization bill, passed by the House Armed Services Committee on Thursday.

“No American who raises their hand to serve our Nation should be punished for making a highly personal medical decision,” Green said in a statement after the committee vote. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration fully approved the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine in August after allowing emergency use beginning in December 2020, saying it is safe and effective for those 16 years old and over.

The Navy became the first service to enforce a timeframe for vaccinations in a series of memos on Tuesday and Wednesday following the FDA approval and an order by Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin for all troops to be vaccinated. The Army and Air Force are expected to give soldiers and airmen a deadline “very, very soon,” Pentagon spokesman John Kirby said during a briefing with reporters Thursday.Advertisement
But troops who refuse to be inoculated may not necessarily face dishonorable discharge, or even separation, according to Kirby.
The Pentagon has repeatedly stopped short of saying it will boot troops for refusing the shot. Commanders will have a range of options that stop short of punishment under the Uniform Code of Military Justice, Kirby said. The services also will allow religious exemptions to the vaccine.
“The secretary expects that the department leadership will implement these mandatory vaccines with skill but also … professionalism and compassion,” Kirby said. “When an individual declines to take a mandatory vaccine, they will be given an opportunity to talk to both medical providers as well as their own chain of command so that they can fully understand the decision they are making.”
The House legislation barring dishonorable discharges now must go to a vote in the full chamber. The House version of the massive, must-pass defense authorization bill also must be reconciled with the Senate version in conference, where controversial measures often are eliminated.
In any case, the bill is unlikely to be signed into law until months after all the military services are enforcing COVID-19 inoculations.
Military.com reported on a Marine corporal who said she was discharged for refusing to wear a mask, possibly the first service member to be pushed out of the military in connection with COVID-19 rules.
According to the Pentagon, roughly 63% of all U.S. forces had received at least one dose or were fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as of Aug. 18.

The US Navy said Thursday that personnel who refuse to be vaccinated against Covid-19 will be expelled from the force, ahead of the November 28 deadline for the injection.
“With Covid-19 vaccines now mandatory for all military members, the Navy has announced plans to start processing for discharge those who refuse vaccination without a pending or approved exemption,” it said in a statement.
It was the first clear indication by the Pentagon of what would happen to service members who reject the vaccines, which became mandatory at the end of August.
Until now military officials had avoided answering what would happen to those who refuse to be vaccinated.
The navy said that 98 percent of its 350,000 active duty members had begun or completed the vaccination process.
For the US military overall, Pentagon spokesman John Kirby said Tuesday that 96.7 percent of the nearly 1.4 million active duty personnel had received at least one dose, and 83.7 percent two doses.
Including military reserves, though, the level was just 80 percent with at least one dose.
If all the services take the same hard line that the navy is taking, it risks losing as many as 46,000 troops, though presumably more will accept vaccinations before the deadline.
Vice Admiral John Nowell, the chief of naval personnel, said the navy force has been hit with 164 coronavirus deaths since the pandemic began.
Of them 144 were known to have not been immunized, while the status of the other 20 was unclear.
People expelled for refusing the vaccine will receive a general honorable discharge, but could lose certain benefits or be forced to repay the cost of training and education in some cases, the statement said.
Navy personnel who can claim an exemption from mandatory vaccines, for health or other reasons, can be reassigned from their current duties.
The navy has been particularly sensitive to the pandemic, because of the risk that a single Covid case could infect an entire ship or submarine at sea, forcing it out of action.
Last year the aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt was struck by an outbreak that infected around a quarter of the 4,800 crew, forcing the warship to remain in port in Guam for disinfection for several weeks.

The U.S. offered payments this week to the family of the 10 Afghan civilians, including seven children, who were killed in error by a U.S. drone strike on August 29.
The Pentagon announced the payments in a statement on Friday night but did not say how much was offered, The New York Times reported. The statement also said the U.S. would help the surviving family members relocate to the United States if they are interested.

Pentagon Press Secretary John Kirby told The Associated Press the offers were made Thursday during a meeting with the aid organization that employed Zemari Ahmadi, the driver who the Pentagon mistakenly believed was an ISIS-K member and whose car was struck by the drone.
“Dr. Kahl reiterated Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin’s commitment to the families, including offering ex gratia condolence payments,” Kirby told AP.
The U.S. military believed Ahmadi was an ISIS-K militant filling his car with boxes of explosives, but he was actually loading water containers, footage obtained by The Times showed. U.S. Gen. Mark Milley, head of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, initially called the attack a “righteous strike.”Advertisement
Weeks later, the U.S. acknowledged that the strike had killed civilians, including Ahmadi and his family. But Gen. Kenneth McKenzie, head of of U.S. Central Command, said that the military learned the casualties were civilians within hours of the strike.

After a daylong hearing, Lt. Col. Stu Scheller has been found guilty of all six charges stemming from his criticism on social media of senior leaders over the Afghanistan withdrawal.
On Aug. 26, Scheller posted a viral video of himself in uniform demanding accountability from senior military leaders following a suicide bombing that killed 13 U.S. troops in Afghanistan that same day. After that, the Marine officer made several more videos, wrote more than a dozen posts, and served nine days in the brig. This special court-martial is the end result of his flurry of social media activity.

In all, prosecutors charged that Scheller discredited himself as an officer or disrespected other officers and officials 27 times through posts and remarks public and private.
The day began with Scheller standing before the judge in his court-martial, Col. Glen Hines, and pleading guilty to charges that included contempt toward officials, disrespect toward superior officers, and dereliction in the performance of duties. The plea was part of an agreement that Scheller’s lawyers reached with the Marine Corps that limits his punishment to no more than a letter of reprimand and a seizure of two-thirds of his pay for up to 12 months.

Given Scheller’s rank and 17 years of service, the latter would cost Scheller tens of thousands of dollars.
“I did what I did because I thought it was in the best long-term interest of the Marine Corps,” Scheller said in his testimony. “I have always wanted to make the Marine Corps better.”
Most of the morning was spent going over each charge to assure both prosecutors and the judge that Scheller was not only guilty but believed that he was guilty of each charge — a necessity under military justice.
Since many of the charges stemmed from posts and comments made on social media, Scheller spent much of his time confirming that he was aware the posts were not private, were intentionally disrespectful, and were not forced.
Scheller also testified that he willfully disobeyed an order — given to him Sept. 17 after his fourth video and several written posts — to stop making further social media posts.
The Marine admitted that “by posting about what I perceived to be my superior’s incompetence” he “adversely affected good order and discipline.”
After Hines accepted both Scheller’s guilty plea and the deal both sides agreed to, the defense called a host of character witnesses. They included four former Marines who had previously served with Scheller and described him as an attentive, engaged and caring leader.
However, the defense also called as witnesses Reps. Louie Gohmert, R-Texas, and Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga. Both representatives argued that Scheller was a victim of a two-tiered judicial system that is more interested in going after him than senior leaders such as Gen. Mark Milley, Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, and President Joe Biden. Greene’s testimony, which prompted several objections from the prosecution for being irrelevant, also called for Biden’s impeachment and accused the U.S. military of “war crimes” over the deadly drone strike that killed 10 in Kabul, Afghanistan, on Aug. 29.
All of the arguments in the trial have now finished, and Hines has adjourned court until Friday morning, when he is expected to announce Scheller’s sentence.

I grabbed the kids and told Jr to stay down or he would end up in the hospital. He stayed down till I left with the kids and we caught up to the others in our tour group. He invited me to the billiards room and as I opened the door I was hit in the face with a beer mug cracking one of my teeth. I got up and started going towards Jr but Voight stopped me and said it was over you got Jr. and now Jr. got you back so it ends here! Voight set the whole thing up so the little punk could get a cheap revenge shot in. which ended up cracking my front tooth at the root leaving me with a dead tooth.

I am no expert on how it works but I do recall some medical professional explaining it during my court trial saying the brain can physically alter itself to stop pain receptors in some people.
This popping noise is that the victims hear and feel in their head.
