Sign Now: Demand that millionaires and billionaires pay their fair share into Social Security.

Tell Congress:”We demand that you scrap the Social Security payroll tax cap, and require millionaires and billionaires to pay-in on all of their income, just like the rest of us. When they do, we can increase benefits for millions of Americans and extend the lifespan of the Social Security trust fund.”Take Action!

patty,

Today, millionaires and billionaires stop paying their fair share into Social Security. That’s because, once you earn $132,900 in a calendar year, you stop contributing to Social Security.

But while the wealthy are off the hook, you and I continue to pay into a system that benefits ALL Americans.

For 83 years, Social Security has ensured a basic standard of living in retirement. And over the years it’s been expanded to cover children and surviving spouses, veterans and people with disabilities. Each year Social Security lifts 22 million Americans out of poverty, and covers 60 million people.[1]

At Americans for Tax Fairness, we are fighting for a fair tax system that works for everyone, not just the wealthy few. And that means requiring the rich and powerful to pay their fair share in taxes.

Sign the petition demanding Congress scrap Social Security’s payroll tax cap and require the wealthy to pay-in on all of their income. When they do, we’ll be able to improve benefits and strengthen Social Security for decades to come.

Right now there are two bills in Congress to expand Social Security’s modest benefits and fully fund the trust fund for decades. One is being introduced today by Senators Bernie Sanders, Kirsten Gillibrand, Jeff Merkley, Kamala Harris, and Cory Booker and Representative Peter DeFazio — the Social Security Expansion Act.

The other, introduced last month by Representative John Larson, is the Social Security 2100 Act, and it already has over 200 co-sponsors in the House!

These bills would increase benefits for Social Security recipients — the average retiree’s benefit is just $17,000 a year [2] — and extend the lifespan of the Social Security trust fund. A lot of this would be paid for by scrapping the payroll tax cap.

Stand with Americans for Tax Fairness today and demand Congress scrap the Social Security tax cap so that the wealthy pay their fair share.

When we do, we’ll be able to guarantee a stronger and improved Social Security program for all of us.

Thank you,
