How A False Media Report Could Have Started WWIII
Posted: 15 Apr 2017 11:22 AM PDT The majority of people who receive their information through media reports depend on them to speak the truth, as what they report can influence public opinion. Yesterday, we witnessed a major media mishap that illustrates how important it is for the media to speak the truth when WWIII was almost triggered by a false headline. As reported by Zero Hedge, Bloomberg and Xinhua incorrectly interpreted events (journalists are human too) and printed a headline that presented a situation in North Korea in a manner that could have triggered a rapid and lethal response by U.S. officials if other media outlets picked up on the false story. The headline that Bloomberg printed read “NORTH KOREA FIRES PROJECTILE, MEDIA SAYS: XINHUA” and can still be navigated to by going at the following URL, which shows that the headline has since been updated and changed: https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2017-04-15/north-korea-fires-projectile-media-says-xinhua Thankfully, there are fact-checkers for both Bloomberg and Xinhua who were quick to spot out the error and fix the report. The Xinhua story is deleted or modified beyond recognition. The real story, as reported by CBC and other outlets, is that North Korea showed off some of their latest submarine missile technology in a national holiday parade. It is easy to see how words can be twisted into something that claims that North Korea launched a missile in this context. This is all important because, depending on whether or not you trust the source, a Buzzfeed study illustrates that President Trump is an occasional Bloomberg reader and posted a story by them 7 times during his presidential campaign. Trump’s recent actions have shown that he can be influenced by those around him. Recently, a giant Twitter army started the #FireKushner trend that peaked at the #1 spot, in response to reports that Ivanka Trump’s husband and senior presidential advisor, Jared Kushner advocated for Trump to order the airstrike in Syria on April 7. [RELATED: #FireKushner Becomes Top Trending Hashtag On Twitter As White House Feud Heats Up] It could be safely argued that if several MSM outlets picked up on Bloomberg’s error and falsely printed a report that a North Korean missile had been fired, that WWIII could be in full effect right about now. Considering Donald Trump and his top advisors advocated lethal quick-response action on April 7 and seeing as how the Syrian airstrike was ordered before an investigation of the chemical weapons attack was carried out. The “respond now justify later” approach that we have seen in the White House so far during Trump’s first term would have had deadly consequences for the world if yesterday’s false report spread around. Especially since President Trump has made it clear on Twitter that North Korea will not be given a free pass to continue their nuclear program:

CIA Director Pompeo Calls WikiLeaks a “Non-State Hostile Intelligence Service”
Posted: 15 Apr 2017 11:21 AM PDT Today the CIA has taken overt shots at Julian Assange and WikiLeaks, Edward Snowden, Chelsea Manning and all other whistleblowers who the CIA claims put American lives at risks by leaking classified information to the public. In a speech given Thursday, at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, Mike Pompeo lashed out a passionate speech overtly against whistleblowers and WikiLeaks, saying that, “WikiLeaks walks like a hostile intelligence service and talks like a hostile intelligence service. It has encouraged its followers to find jobs at CIA in order to obtain intelligence.” He went on to further elaborate, calling WikiLeaks a, “non-state hostile intelligence service often abetted by state actors like Russia.” Pompeo thinks that whistleblowers like Assange put people’s lives and accordingly national security at risk, which is one of his positions as to why they should be scorned. We can see this when he says that:
Pompeo also attacked the definition of whistleblower in Orwellian-like doublespeak. Instead of referencing the dictionary definition of whistleblower, he is disillusioned in his own belief as to what a whistleblower is, saying:
He even then goes on to take shots at Julian Assange’s character, even accusing Assange of being a narcissist to further his point as to why we shouldn’t look through the publications of Assange’s WikiLeaks, saying that:
Pompeo Lays Out A Plan To Combat WikiLeaks and WhistleblowersWhile concluding the speech, Pompeo laid out a plan to fight “hostile non-state intelligence agencies” in a series of steps. During this plan, he stated that, “ignorance or misplaced idealism is no longer an acceptable excuse for lionizing these demons,” and that there is, “no quick fix – no foolproof cure,” but that:
In essence, we can pull from this speech that the U.S. is developing a secret plan to deal with foreign and domestic whistleblowers. We might not know how this will work until it happens. To all of our friends in the intelligence community, both from “hostile non-state agencies” and ones from the CIA and NSA, know that we want to defend the ideals of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, just like you. We are sick of the secrets and lies being perpetuated in the name of national security. Perhaps the first step in solving the whistleblower problem is being honest and direct with the American people.

For The First Time In 24 Years, The U.S. Is Now Sending Troops To Somalia
Posted: 15 Apr 2017 09:54 AM PDT The new deployment will be the first time US ground troops are officially deployed to Somalia.Article via Antiwar In October 1993, during the Battle of Mogadishu (the Black Hawk Down incident), 18 US soldiers were killed and 73 wounded, with a pair of Black Hawk helicopters shot down. The US responded by ceasing military operations, and within a few months had withdrawn all troops from Somalia. Today, they are headed back. The new deployment, which US African Command (AFRICOM) is presented as a simple training operation, will be the first time US ground troops are officially deployed to Somalia, though of course the US has had some special forces present on the ground on and off, conducting occasional operations and spotting for US airstrikes. AFRICOM also insists the new deployment was at the request of the Somali government, though indications in recent weeks has indicated that military officials have been pushing for an escalation of US intervention in the country at any rate, aimed at fighting al-Shabaab. When commanders want to push for fighting in Somalia, al-Shabaab is presented as either ISIS or al-Qaeda affiliated, though in practice the group is largely an independent Islamist operation with a similar ideology. The group’s operations are confined almost exclusively to Somalia, though they have launched some strikes into neighboring countries, as retaliation for those countries (particularly Kenya) being involved in interventions against them. A lot has changed in Somalia in the 24 years between direct US interventions, with the country undergoing a long period of comparatively stable anarchy followed by a protracted war designed to prop up a self-proclaimed government. It was this war, and African Union interventions to try to claim territory for this government, that largely fueled the creation of al-Shabaab. Turns Out Trump Won’t Be Cancelling World War 3 After All
Posted: 15 Apr 2017 08:51 AM PDT Stand Down, Mr TrumpIt’s time to formulate an asymmetrical response.Article via SCG On April 6th, 2017, on the 100 year anniversary of America’s entry into World War I, Donald Trump launched airstrikes against against the Syrian government; in retaliation for a gas attack supposedly perpetrated by Assad. There was no investigation, not even a hack job of a frame up like we had in 2003. The evidence we do have contradicts the official story, and the stakes are much higher this time around. Then before the dust had even settled, Trump pivoted to Asia. Ratcheting up intimidation tactics, towards North Korea. Threatening regime change and practically begging the already insecure Kim Jong-un to do something stupid. And that’s the point. Provoke a response, and then play the victim. If he can’t get it the old fashion way he might just make one up. Trump cut a deal with the deep state, and the neoliberal/neocon/corporate alliance. They got his back now. As long as they get their war, everybody’s happy. Make no mistake this is just the beginning. Expect the unexpected in the South China Sea, Iran, and Eastern Europe and on the home front. The circus tent is coming down, but boy is he gonna give us a show in the meantime. Trump isn’t just flirting with World War III, he’s inviting it. He wants everyone to know that he’s crazy enough to pull the trigger; thinks it’ll help him twist some arms, thinks he can force the big boys to negotiate. But this isn’t isn’t a real estate deal, and that’s not an ace he’s got up his sleeve. Nobody wins a nuclear war. If just 300 of Russia’s bombs were set off in the United States somewhere between 75 and 100 million people would die in the first half hour. Most of the infrastructure needed to support the population would be instantly destroyed: communication systems, hospitals, transport, power plants, etc… Those not killed by the initial blast would die slowly in the coming months from radiation poisoning, starvation, exposure, and disease. And this is just the tip of the iceberg. Even a smaller nuclear conflict involving only 50 to 100 Hiroshima sized bombs would send 5 million tons of debris into the upper atmosphere causing global temperatures to plummet catastrophically, reducing rainfall worldwide for up to a decade, devastating agriculture, and triggering mass starvation on a global scale. That is not a world you would want to raise children in. The powers want to tip the game board, rewrite history and start again. They think you’re too stupid, too distracted, too easy to manipulated by emotional platitudes to examine the evidence. It would be completely illogical for Assad to use chemical weapons at this stage of the conflict . They had nothing to gain from this and everything to lose. The Syrian army had the clear advantage at this stage with conventional means, Russia has their back, and that gave them an extremely strong position going into negotiations which were scheduled for the very next day (April 7th). Assad would have to be a total moron to do something like this (and he’s not). Then there’s the fact Assad doesn’t actually have such weapons. According to the OPCW, the last of Syria’s chemical weapons were handed over for destruction in 2014. John Kerry confirmed this assessment. “But Assad used chemical weapons before!” Really? When? According to the U.N. investigation conducted on the gas attacks of 2013, as reported by the BBC, it was the Rebels that used Sarin, not Assad. Obama backed down in 2013 because the U.S. backed rebels got caught, and we held them accountable. As a people we activated in 2013 against these airstrikes. We flooded the phone lines as congress approached the vote. We didn’t ask nicely. We made it clear that we knew their names and addresses and that we would hold them personally accountable for the consequences. Funny thing: they cancelled the vote, Obama backed down, and humanity temporarily stepped away from the abyss. Trump himself spoke out against the airstrikes in 2013. He demanded a formal declaration of war by congress “unconstitutional if not”. Pointed out just how stupid and destructive such a decision would be…
Even a week prior to the airstrikes the Trump administration had announced that Assad could stay… then something flipped.
Mr Trump is a liar, a hypocrite and a fool. He has turned the U.S. military into Al Qaeda’s air force. He’s playing chicken with humanity’s future. He’s rolling dice with the inhabitability of the planet. And this insanity is bipartisan! The Neoliberal, Neocon, corporate alliance has come out of the closet, in a disgusting show of war mongering solidarity. These haircuts in suits don’t deserve your obedience. They don’t even deserve your respect. It’s not their power it’s yours. If enough of you figure that out it’s game over. That’s why they pit you against each other provoking artificial group identities. Divide and conquer makes you easy to control. The choices we make in the next few milliseconds of human history count. A lot. Asymmetrical Response When the odds are stacked against us, and failure is not an option we must formulate an asymmetrical response. We have to think outside the box, find creative ways to break the chain of obedience, and send a message in uncompromising terms: #StandDownMrTrump Stand Down. Kim Jong Un Aide: North Korea Will ‘Annihilate U.S With Our Style of Nuclear Strike Warfare’
Posted: 15 Apr 2017 05:22 AM PDT Originally published at Mirror.co.uk (UK MIRROR) — A close aide of Kim Jong-Un has warned ‘reckless’ Donald Trump that North Korea will ‘annihilate the U.S with our style of nuclear strike warfare’. The threat came as the country’s leader watched on as the country’s military put on a huge display of strength in Pyongyang. The despot leader, 33, applauded alongside military leaders as thousands of troops and tanks filled the streets of the capital on Saturday morning. At the ceremony, Choe Ryong Hae, addressed the packed square with a characteristically bellicose warning to the United States. “If the United States wages reckless provocation against us, our revolutionary power will instantly counter with annihilating strike, and we will respond to full-out war with full-out war and to nuclear war with our style of nuclear strike warfare,” he said. North Korea has vowed to retaliate in a “merciless manner as not to allow the aggressors to survive” against the US and its allies if Washington chose to attack.

VIDEO: Russia Moves Anti-Aircraft Missiles To Border Of North Korea As Tension Heats Up
Posted: 15 Apr 2017 04:42 AM PDT Russia has reportedly moved several military vehicles towards Vladivostok, which is within miles of striking distance of North Korea according to a video uploaded to social media.
According to reports, a military convoy of eight surface-to-air missiles, apart of Russia’s Air Defence, were on the move. The S400 anti-aircraft missiles were moved to Vladivostok, where Russia has a major navy base. The dramatic move was unconfirmed by the Russian government, but was spotted by dozens of residents in the border city and posted on social media. This comes as North Korea warned that they are prepared for all-out war with the US, while China pleads for the two countries to back down from escalation warning there will be no victor if there is war. On Friday, China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi warned that “conflict could break out at any moment”. “We call on all parties to refrain from provoking and threatening each other and not to let the situation get to an irreversible and unmanageable stage,” Wang said. [RELATED: China To U.S. And North Korea If War Breaks: ‘There Will Be No Winner’] Air China, has canceled flights from Beijing to Pyongyang, amid fears of an escalation in the region. While the Japanese have begun planning efforts to evacuate their 60,000 citizens from South Korea. Since the footage has emerged, fears have risen that North Korea could become the powder keg that sparks conflict involving the US, China, and Russia. Which would undoubtedly ignite World War III. Both China and Russia trade with North Korea but it’s unclear whether China will side with North Korea or the U.S. in a military conflict after meeting with Donald Trump and turning back North Korean coal. Another video showed Chinese military moving anti-aircraft missiles although the footage has been found to have been uploaded in March according to Epochtimes.

Tillerson in Moscow: Is World War III Back on Track?
Posted: 14 Apr 2017 07:55 PM PDT Article via Strategic Culture If anyone is worried whether the prospect of a major war, which many of us considered almost inevitable if Hillary Clinton had attained the White House, is back on track, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson’s visit to Moscow was cold comfort. From his remarks together with his counterpart Sergey Lavrov, there is now little reason to expect any improvement in US-Russia ties anytime soon, if ever, and much reason to expect them to get worse – a lot worse. There has been a great deal of speculation as to why President Donald Trump, who promised a break with the warmongering policies Hillary would have implemented, and which characterized the administrations of Barack Obama, George W. Bush, and Bill Clinton, would have bombed Syria’s Shayrat airbase in retaliation for a supposed chemical weapons (CW) strike without evidence or authorization from either Congress or the UN Security Council. (I won’t bore anyone familiar with Balkan affairs with the almost certain origin of the gas attack in Idlib. The odds that it was a false flag by the jihadists far, far outweigh any chance of a CW attack by Syrian government forces. To cite the «Markale market massacres» is enough. Ghouta September 2013 wasn’t the first such deception in Syria, and Idlib April 2017 won’t be the last. American media condemning Assad for the CW attack and demanding justice for the victims never mention that the site is held by al-Qaeda and that they themselves have a CW capability. Nor that the jihadists likely knew when and where Syrian planes would be operating, since the Russians would have notified the US under the deconfliction agreement. This is not to rule out the Russian explanation that the release was due to Syrian bombing of the jihadists’ CW cache but I consider the planned provocation more likely based on the timing. Predictably, an amateurish four-page paper issued by the US intelligence community to justify accusations against Assad contained zero evidence.) Among the reasons speculated for President Trump’s abrupt reversal of his campaign positions: Trump actually believes Assad was responsible, based on false intelligence fed to him by National Security Adviser H.R. McMaster and others, or on an emotional appeal from his daughter, Ivanka, based on sensational media coverage. · Trump doesn’t believe it but someone gave him The Talk: «Do what you’re told, Mr. President, or you and Barron will end up like Jack Kennedy.» · Whether or not he believes Assad is to blame for the CW attack, Trump wants to improve ties with the Russians and work together with them to defeat the jihadists in Syria and end the war, and perhaps cut a «grand bargain» that includes Ukraine, but he can’t because of the domestic pressure from the media, the Deep State, almost all of the Democrats, and a lot of Republicans on the evidence-free charge that Moscow tried to skew the 2016 election. (That seems to be partly working, with many formerly harsh critics now praising him. On the other hand, his own base is now split between those cheer any jingoistic use of force and those who see that another optional war will doom his domestic priority to «Make America Great Again!») The one piece of evidence that supports this conjecture is the extremely limited pinprick nature of the US strike on Shayrat. · Related to the previous point, given the power of the domestic forces conspiring against him, Trump needed to project strength. (My guess is that Moscow, Beijing, and others will conclude just the opposite: he is weak and not even master in his own house.) · Trump is impulsive and lacking in substance, so he goes for the quickest and easiest path to what he perceives to be current advantage. The praise of his former detractors – mainly those who have denigrated and derided him – will prove short-lived. At the earliest opportunity those hailing him now as «presidential» will be the first to call for his head. · Trump’s real priority was to impress the Chinese on Korea, with a show of force during President Xi Jinping’s summit in the US. Sending an aircraft carrier group to the waters near Korea with a barrage of bellicose rhetoric that the US will resolve the North Korea issue if China doesn’t reinforces this theory, at least in part. Whether Xi was impressed the way Trump might have intended it is another conjecture. Whatever the motives, the real question is what comes next. Aside from when another false flag may occur – which Washington in effect invited with threats of a further, more devastating military action against Syria – it matters whether behind closed doors Tillerson’s proposals differed from his public comments. Broadly speaking, there are two possibilities: 1. Tillerson may have said, in effect, that Trump has laid down a marker, neutralized domestic critics, and shown he’s a big dog – now let’s get down to business. All the accusatory language is just for show, so Trump will have greater flexibility of action. In the weeks prior to the Idlib CW attack, Washington and Moscow had seemed to be coordinating on plans for an offensive against Daesh in Raqqa and airstrikes against al-Qaeda in Idlib. The US and Russia together need to find a way to wrap up this war that defeats the enemy Trump campaigned against: radical Islamic terrorism. It’s up to the Syrian people to work out who their leaders should be. If there are security concerns America’s Israeli, Turkish, and Sunni friends have, let’s find a way to address them within that larger context – or 2. Tillerson’s private comments were consistent with his public statements, amounting to imposing the US Deep State’s agenda on Moscow. That diktat gives priority to blocking some mythical «Shia Crescent» to keep our Sunni «allies» and Israel happy. Assad must go on some specified timetable, though we may grandly allow him so preside over a rump Alawite state in western Syria on a temporary basis; if Assad goes along, we’ll let him retire to Moscow, but if he waits until the next chemical provocation it’s off to The Hague or we’ll kill him ourselves. Syria must be partitioned: we will allow Moscow to participate in a marginal role on the «defeat» of Daesh with a blitzkrieg on Raqqa but then create a «Sunnistan» (or maybe more than one) in eastern Syria, run by some hand-picked jihadi group friendly to the Saudis – basically Daesh with new hats and flag: Islamic State «lite.» To limit Kurdish aspirations Turkey might be awarded a «Turkmen» zone in the new Syria, as well as primacy over a neighboring al-Qaeda-administered area. Also we can anticipate a demand that Russia be prepared to step aside and not oppose an operation for regime change in Tehran. Even the first message might have been a hard sell given how poisoned the well is and the depth of the abyss of Russian mistrust of the United States. No matter how positive anything Tillerson might have said privately, can anyone in Moscow now believe anything from Washington? But if the message was the second one, as I believe it was, the Russians would have little choice but to conclude that a major war may be unavoidable and they will plan accordingly. (China would reach the same conclusion.) Plans being made when it was assumed Hillary Clinton was going to win but tentatively mothballed with Trump’s election will be pulled out and updated. Paradoxically, Moscow might still acquiesce to Tillerson’s demands on Syria but only in the spirit of August 1939 – a temporary expedient to buy time and space for what must come. I of course hope the message was the first but fear it was the second. The white-hot rhetoric coming out of Washington is far in excess of that needed to position US opinion for a reasonable deal with Moscow. Quite to the contrary, it seems calculated to burn any bridges back from anything but regime change and more war. Once again, as has been the case since the Cold War ended in 1991 – but only on the Russian side – US goals look to be geopolitical and ideological, not based on American national interest. The agendas of the Deep State and our regional «allies» will continue to set US policy. Russia must be destroyed as an independent power, right after Syria, Iran, and North Korea but before China. (In a Balkan sideshow, Trump this week signed the NATO accession of Montenegro, effectively completing encirclement of Serbia. At a White House meeting with Jens Stoltenberg, Trump praised NATO.) As was the case in Bosnia, Kosovo, and Libya, and today in Syria, the US is happy to use jihadists as proxies while coldly watching them eliminate centuries-old Christian communities. In short, the usual. If such a path has been chose by Trump, as appears likely, it may well doom his presidency to failure. But in context, that would be the least of our worries. I would be very, very glad to be proved wrong. This article first appeared on Strategic-Culture.org and was authored by James George Jatras. U.S. Navy Sailor Convicted 30 Years In Prison For Producing Child Pornography
Posted: 14 Apr 2017 02:27 PM PDT A U.S. Navy sailor has been convicted to 30 years in prison for recording sex acts with minor girls. A federal judge sentenced 26-year-old Petty Officer 2nd Class Jordan Lee Adams in civillian court on one count of producing child pornography, according to Virginia prosecutors. Adams plead guilty in January to the single count in January, though court documents stated that he had sexual intercourse with at least four underage girls between 2009 and 2013. The sailor was facing a minimum of 15 years, but the judge went for a lenghthier sentence, referring to Adams as a “serial child rapist and predator.” Special Assitant U.S. Attorney Alyssa Nichol asked the court to sentence Adams to 30 years in prison – the maximum allowed for the offense, PilotOnline reported.
“Adams has shown that he is the epitome of the type of person from which the public needs to be protected,” she said, noting that he targeted young girls because of their age, groomed them and abused them. “The government does not believe that Adams is able to control himself.” “This is a life sentence for these children,” U.S. District Judge Arenda Wright Allen said. Much of the case focused on Adams’ acts with an unnamed girl in Wayne County, North Carolina, where the man grew up. Court records stated that Adams distributed some of the photos on a social media platform popular with child pornographers, though police did not name that application. Adam’s relationship with the young girl started in 2011, when he was 21 and the girl was a mere 14 years old. They had sex multiple times. According to court documents, the girl asked him at one point to stop, but Adams told her no and continued. The Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) started investigating Adams in August 2014, when another female sailor said he sexually assaulted her.Adams gave NCIS agents permission to search the laptop where he stored photos and videos of his sexual encounters. Adams then gave the NCIS agents permission to search his laptop where he stored photos and videos of his rapes. The agents found 998 images and videos of suspected or known child pornography, with some of it cataloged in subfolders titled with the victims’ names. Facebook To Target Fake User Accounts Spreading Fake News
Posted: 14 Apr 2017 02:16 PM PDT Facebook is taking aim at “fake news,” and “fake” user accounts, according to CEO Mark Zuckerberg. The social media giant announced on Thursday that it will begin rolling out changes to its systems to make it more difficult to create fake accounts which promote fake news. The goal is to recognize patterns of activity by accounts that constantly post the same content. Facebook said the changes already allowed it to identify and eliminate more than 30,000 fake accounts in France. “By constantly improving our techniques, we also aim to reduce the financial incentives for spammers who rely on distribution to make their efforts worthwhile,” Shabnam Shaik, a technical program manager at Facebook, wrote in a Facebook post.
“This effort complements other initiatives we have previously announced that are designed to reduce the distribution of misinformation, spam or false news on Facebook. We’ve found that a lot of false news is financially motivated, and as part of our work to promote an informed society, we have focused on making it very difficult for dishonest people to exploit our platform or profit financially from false news sites using Facebook.”
The accusations of fake news on the internet, which some believe is responsible for President Donald Trump’s victory last year, has become a hot issue — with tech giants like Facebook, Google and Twitter being asked to do something about their user’s spread of “fake news.” A Stanford study last year, however, found that the spread of satire news and outright lies did not help Trump win. We Are Change was also labeled “fake news”/Russian propaganda by a discredited Ukraine-based think tank called Propornot in October of last year.
