Helga Zepp-LaRouche in China: East-West Cooperation Is the Only Way to Overcome Geopolitics
May 30 (EIRNS)—Having just completed a ten-day visit to China, and attended the Conference on the Dialogue of Asian Civilizations (CDAC), Schiller Institute President Helga Zepp-LaRouche remarked in her international strategic webcast today that the only option for resolving the world’s very dangerous geopolitical conflicts is through dialogue, global participation in China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), and urgent adoption of the late Lyndon LaRouche’s Four Laws.
“A chorus of people, institutions, countries” is needed now, Zepp-LaRouche stressed, to say, “China has made the offer to the West and to the United States repeatedly to join the Belt and Road Initiative to have multilateral and bilateral cooperation between China and the United States, and also joint ventures in Latin America, in Africa, in Asia, in Europe—and the United States should accept this, and seize the enormous economic potential which the Belt and Road Initiative represents for all of mankind.”
There is no other option, Zepp-LaRouche said. Right now, we see “two completely opposing and competing models of international politics: one is the dialogue of civilizations which is very attractive, because it brings benefits to all participating nations; and then you have the effort to maintain a unipolar world order, based on the Anglo-American alliance, de facto, bullying countries, and this does not come across very well.”
The May 15 CDAC conference, she said, was “truly remarkable,” and in combination with the 2017 and 2019 Belt and Road Forums showed that Chinese President Xi Jinping is creating a “completely new paradigm of international relations.” What the CDAC conference and related activities demonstrated is that Chinese and all other Asian cultures reflect a love of beauty, pride in their civilizations that are thousands of years old, and above all, immense optimism and a future orientation. There was no speaker who made negative remarks; rather “everybody was absolutely practicing the best tradition of the other, of pointing to the fact that there is no conflict which cannot be solved through dialogue … and I think this is an extremely promising road for the future of international relations.”
Contrast this to the West, Zepp-LaRouche said. In Europe, you have the disunity of the European Union and a U.S. population which is “very, very far from having this kind of optimism,” expressed in the Dialogue of Asian Civilizations. The reality is that Asia is “carrying out the values and virtues” which the West used to have, and now “we are really looking at the consequences of that going away from our best traditions.” Worse, she continued, is that the campaign coming from U.S. intelligence agencies and neocon factions to paint China as an enemy or adversary is “completely out of control.” What’s behind the attack on Huawei, Zepp-LaRouche argued, is really an effort to “contain China, to prevent its rise, to make sure that China will never pass the United States.”
This is not only futile but dangerous, Zepp-LaRouche warned. “You cannot contain a country of 1.4 billion people, whose government has set the policy obviously in the right direction.” Now, other developing nations are looking at the Chinese model as the way to overcome their own underdevelopment, and to lift their populations out of poverty. “So, the idea that you can contain a nation just because it’s not Western, is a completely absurd idea, and shows you just the stupidity of those who are pushing the clash of civilizations of Samuel Huntington.”
This orchestrated conflict must be reversed, she said, and quickly. In an era of nuclear weapons, geopolitical conflict between an “Eastern” and “Western” bloc—a new Cold War—would be catastrophic for all mankind.
In the U.S., despite the fact that President Donald Trump and Attorney General William Barr are leading the counter-coup against the British intelligence-allied Russiagate crowd, the drumbeat for impeachment coming from the Democrats has made it impossible for Trump to work with the Congress to resolve the country’s pressing economic crisis, such as the recent devastation of the Midwest due to months of flooding.
The only way out of this, Zepp-LaRoche concluded, is the “full package designed by my husband, including a New Bretton Woods international credit program, because a new financial crash is hanging over our heads like a Sword of Damocles.” The population has to abandon partisan politics which tramples on any notion of the common good. The United States is “not in safe waters … and only the package of Lyndon LaRouche’s Four Laws, and cooperation with the Belt and Road Initiative internationally, where the United States would take a role in shaping the future—not just being part of it” can adequately address the crisis. What’s needed, Zepp-LaRouche said, is a national debate which goes beyond the “present hysteria orchestrated by the mass media … and get to a higher paradigm of thinking.”
In this context, the campaign to exonerate Lyndon LaRouche is crucial, Zepp-LaRouche emphasized, “because there is no greater contradiction between the beauty and wealth of the ideas of Lyndon LaRouche, and the picture which has been painted by this apparatus which involved the witch hunt against Trump.” It’s ironic, she stated, that Trump has complained about the witch hunt behind Russiagate, but now “the United States is committing a witch hunt against China…. So you have three victims of a witch hunt: my husband, President Trump and China—and it comes from the same people … those people who absolutely want to suppress the idea of a New Paradigm.” Zepp-LaRouche said she was convinced that her husband’s exoneration “is almost the precondition for the United States to stop this policy of confrontation, being in cahoots with the British Empire … only if you shed that kind of geopolitical thinking and look at the solutions presented by Lyndon LaRouche, can there be a solution on a higher level.”
NEW GLOBAL ECONOMIC ORDER
A Solemn Commemoration Event for Lyndon LaRouche Held in Sana’a, Yemen
May 29 (EIRNS)—Today, a group of Yemeni officials and members of the BRICS Youth Cabinet headed by its president and Schiller Institute friend Fouad Al-Ghaffari, held a commemoration and solidarity stand for the great American thinker Lyndon LaRouche, who died on Feb. 12, 2019, entitled “Commemoration and Solidarity Stand for Lyndon H. LaRouche, Jr.”
The ceremony was held in the headquarters of the Yemeni General Investment Authority (YGIA), and was addressed by the deputy head of the YGIA, Engineer Khaled Sharafaddin, and by Sheikh Saleh Sail, the chairman of the pro-unity Al-Tahrir Party and member of the Shura Consultative Council of the Parliament of Yemen, in addition to Al-Ghaffari. A statement by Hussein Askary, Southwest Asia Coordinator for the Schiller Institute, was read by one of the Youth Cabinet Members. Askary’s statement cited a quote from Prophet Mohammed’s Tradition (Hadith) stating: “When the son of Adam [a human being] dies, his/her connection to this world is broken, except for three: A continued charity, a useful knowledge/science, or a good posterity who pray for him/her.” Askary noted that LaRouche’s soul enjoys all three of these ties to this world and immortality:
• first, through his international organization which is helping people around the world to create a better world;
• second, through his scientific, economic and philosophical ideas that revolutionized the world and gave it a New Silk Road that is evolving right now into a world land-bridge;
• third, through all the young people of the world (including the Youth gathered in Sana’a today) whom LaRouche adopted as his children, making them his posterity who are now praying for him.
A massive banner adorned the meeting hall where the commemoration event was held featuring pictures of Lyndon LaRouche and Helga Zepp-LaRouche in different stages of his life, placed like a film sequence. The text on the banner reads as follows:
“Commemoration and Solidarity Stand for Lyndon H. LaRouche Jr.
“We stand here in the Republic of Yemen from the BRICS Program of the Yemen Investment Authority in commemoration of the late great thinker Lyndon LaRouche.
“It is also a stand of condolence for his companion Mrs. Helga Zepp-LaRouche, Chairwoman of the Schiller Institute, and the Silk Road Lady.
“A stand of gratitude for his defense of Yemen against the three-pronged act of aggression, economic blockade, and occupation.
“A stand of solidarity with the international LaRouche political movement to achieve his dream of building the World Land-Bridge.
“A stand for the victory of his soul as many of his dreams are coming true in many parts of Earth on the basis of Physical Economics which he pioneered in our time.
“A stand to celebrate that his picture will forever adorn the report ‘Operation Felix for Reconstruction of Yemen’ to inspire and watch. Lyndon LaRouche has left us in person, but his ideas are immortal.”
Russia and China To Sign 30 Documents during Xi Jinping’s Visit to Moscow
May 30 (EIRNS)—Chinese Deputy Foreign Minister Zhang Hanhui said in a briefing this morning that Russia and China would sign some 30 agreements during Chinese President Xi Jinping’s visit to Russia in June, TASS reported. These will include cooperation in economy, trade, energy, investment and other spheres.
The Chinese President will start his state visit on June 5 in Moscow, and then attend and address the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, being held June 6-8. President Vladimir Putin will chair that meeting. President Putin had extended the invitation to Xi in December, saying “we will be glad to see you as the main guest” at the SPIEF. Xi, in turn, invited Putin to attend the second Belt and Road Forum that took place in Beijing last month.
During his three-day state visit, Xi and President Putin will also sign two joint communiqués, one on bilateral relations, and the second on issues “on the international agenda and strategic stability” of mutual interest.
Hanhui said Russian-Chinese relations are not directed at any third countries. “Our bilateral relations are not aimed against any third countries, but they will weather any attempts by third countries to harm them,” he said. “In the international environment, there are changes which had not been observed in the previous century. Unilateralism and the practice of oppression are strengthening, representing a serious challenge to basic norms of the global governance system. Conflicts break out in different parts of the world, and the humankind faces many challenges and threats. Despite these negative trends, the relations of China and Russia continue their healthy development and are becoming mature, stable and energetic.”
He stressed that “The two countries strongly support the UN-led international system to maintain the world order based on international law for the sake of global peace, stability and justice. Our countries strongly advocate multilateralism and an open global economy. All this serves as a stabilizing force on the rapidly changing international landscape.”
China Promotes Potential of Its Ibero-American Industrial Cooperation Fund
May 29 (EIRNS)—China is prepared to invest $30 billion in Latin America and the Caribbean through its China-LAC Industrial Cooperation Investment Fund (CLAI Fund), the Fund’s Executive Vice President Huang Jinyuan told journalists from that region at a May 22 press conference in Beijing at the CLAI Fund headquarters. He described the fund’s focus on financing high technology, infrastructure, energy and mining, agriculture, financial cooperation and manufacturing industry, through medium- and long-term capital investments, loans, and debts.
The fund is interacting with national and international commercial and investment banks, and has close relations with the region’s ministries and their embassies in China, he said. So far, it is capitalized at $10 billion.
No announcements were made about new investments, and Huang referenced two disbursements made by the fund going back some years, so the briefing appears to have been given to gear up future activity by the fund. El Caribe of the Dominican Republic jumped on the offer, raising the possibility, in its article on Huang’s briefing, that the fund could be tapped to actualize China’s promised help in rebuilding that nation’s horrible electricity infrastructure.
China Development Bank (CDB) describes the CLAI Fund as follows: “A middle- to long-term development fund primarily managed by China, the fund was set up as announced by the Chinese Premier Li Keqiang at the China-Brazil Business Summit held in May 2015. With the total size of $30 billion ($10 billion in the first phase), the Fund is jointly financed by China’s State Administration of Foreign Exchange and the CDB, to support China-Latin America cooperation in production capacity and equipment manufacturing, with investment made primarily in manufacturing, high technology, agriculture, energy and minerals, infrastructure, and financial cooperation in Latin America.”
U.S. POLITICAL & ECONOMIC
On the Eve of President Trump’s State Visit, British Intelligence Tries To Obscure Its Guilt in U.S. Coup Attempt
May 30 (EIRNS)—In his surprise nine-minute news conference yesterday, “legal assassin,” retiring Special Counsel Bob Mueller added more Delphic lies to the ones already in his two-volume book, as we’ve previously reported—lies crafted to fuel the drive for President Donald Trump’s impeachment. Already in the hours since Mueller spoke, two more Democratic Senators (both Presidential pre-candidates) and three more Democratic Congressmen have swallowed the bait for impeachment.
But the geometry of six weeks ago, when the Mueller report was released, has changed. So much of what the LaRouche movement has been saying all along has now been vindicated, and everything it says now has immediate reach and impact. The knowledge of the LaRouche frameup through the LaRouche PAC pamphlet “Robert Mueller Is an Amoral Legal Assassin: He Will Do His Job If You Let Him” has been revived, which will be key to the exoneration of Lyndon LaRouche. Former NSA Technical Director William Binney’s evidence and insights are appearing everywhere, for instance, with or without his name attached to them.
And now the coup-plotters are themselves being investigated, by competent and legally-empowered investigators. And the leaders of this constitutional counter-coup, President Trump and Attorney General William Barr, know that they dare not stop or hesitate for even a moment; they can only fight on harder to victory—otherwise their prey will turn on them and devour them.
Next week, on June 3, President Trump will go to London armed with a list of questions from House Intelligence Committee Ranking Member Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA), armed to press the British for all the answers on how they plotted to overthrow an American President—as Helga Zepp-LaRouche had suggested that Trump should do on this visit.
On the eve of the President’s trip, investigative journalist John Solomon sprung a story in The Hill on May 29. Apparently it has just now recently come to light, that back on Jan. 12, 2017, a letter was hand delivered to Trump’s then-National Security Adviser Gen. Mike Flynn, from Prime Minister May’s then-National Security Adviser Sir Mark Lyall Grant. The letter itself has not yet been found, and General Flynn has no recollection of it at all.
Nevertheless, its nature is clear: it’s a cover-your-ass memo.
A source of Solomon’s, an unnamed former National Security Council staffer who said he had read the memo in Flynn’s office, told Solomon that the document contained an explanation from Grant that British authorities assisted the early U.S. investigation into Trump-Russia collusion and later concluded that MI6 operative Christopher Steele’s dodgy dossier intelligence was unreliable.
“The message was clear,” Solomon underscored. “The Brits were saying they may have done some stuff to assist the investigation that they now regretted, after learning the whole thing was based on information from Steele. They wanted Trump’s team to know they did not think Steele’s information was credible or reliable. They also wanted Trump to know whatever they had done, they did only at the Americans’ request and didn’t want it to get in the way of cooperating with the U.S.”
Now, did this memo really exist in January 2017? But even if it did, why was it never circulated until just now?
A Moment of Near-Comity in U.S.-China Televised ‘Debate’
May 30 (EIRNS)—It was advertised as a debate yesterday between Fox News firebrand Trish Regan and CGTN’s anchor Liu Xin, who hosts her own TV news journal “The Point.” The two had had a public disagreement when Liu Xin used her program to correct some of the outrageous figures that Trish Regan had been bandying about on the U.S. trade deficit with China.
As it developed, Regan invited Liu Xin to be on her show to debate the issue of the trade dispute. There was much excitement about this, as it would give Liu Xin an unprecedented possibility to give the Chinese point of view on the conflict. It began roughly, with Regan saying that she was debating with columnist Liu Xin, who represented the views of the Communist Party of China. Liu Xin corrected her saying that she was not even a member of the Communist Party, but simply a journalist working for China Global Television Network and the views she expressed represented only her own opinions.
While Regan remained obnoxious in some of her comments, there was obviously a lack of animosity between the two. Liu Xin was able to explain something about China’s “Socialism with Chinese Characteristics,” explaining that 80% of China’s GDP was created by private industry and not by state-owned companies. Regan also mellowed a bit, allowing Liu Xin to have her say without interrupting. Liu also described that China was pursuing a policy of further opening up to foreign enterprises.
On the accusations of “technology theft,” Liu admitted that it may have occurred as it does in many countries, but that the government was cracking down on it. She also pointed out that that U.S. and other foreign firms in China were doing well, and would not continue to stay there if they felt their technology was in danger. At the end, the two actually found themselves in agreement, and that they both felt that the trade war should be resolved. Regan thanked Liu Xin for coming on the show (via a video conference from Beijing) and Liu Xin expressed the hope that they could have more of these discussions. The “debate” was greeted by many in China, frustrated over the obstacles they have to overcome in order to bring their case before the U.S. public.
COLLAPSING WESTERN FINANCIAL SYSTEM
China Expresses Growing Indignation with U.S. Wielding ‘Naked Economic Terrorism’
May 30 (EIRNS)—Exasperated over the ongoing conflict with the Trump Administration, Chinese officials are speaking out.
Addressing a press briefing in Beijing yesterday morning on President Xi Jinping’s state visit to Russia next week, Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Zhang Hanhui said China opposed the use of “big sticks such as trade sanctions, tariffs and protectionism used by the United States…. We oppose a trade war, but are not afraid of a trade war. This kind of deliberately provoking trade disputes is naked economic terrorism, economic homicide, economic bullying,” Zhang said when asked about the trade war, Reuters reported.
Also, as the acting U.S. Defense Secretary Patrick Shanahan headed for Beijing to hold talks with Chinese Defense Minister Wei Fenghe, China’s Defense Ministry spokesman Senior Col. Wu Qian charged today at the monthly press briefing that, “The U.S. recently often played the Taiwan card, in a vain attempt to use Taiwan to contain China. This is purely wishful thinking…. The U.S. is playing with fire with its series of moves, which are seriously jeopardizing the development of relations between the two countries and the two militaries, as well as seriously endangering peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait,” Agence France-Presse quoted Colonel Wu as saying.
Moreover, as Bloomberg reported today, China has put purchase of soybeans from the United States on hold. Although China has not expressed any plan to cancel previous purchases of American soybeans, the state grain buyers have not received any further orders to continue with the so-called goodwill buying, and don’t expect that to happen given the lack of agreement in trade negotiations.
Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Defends Huawei, Criticizes Washington Confrontation with Beijing
May 30 (EIRNS)—Speaking at the annual “Future of Asia” conference in Tokyo yesterday, sponsored by Nikkei, Malaysia’s Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad issued a ringing defense of Huawei Technologies Co., which has been blacklisted by the U.S. on national security grounds.
In a question-and-answer session following his speech, Mahathir told reporters that Malaysia will use Huawei’s technology “as much as possible,” as it offers “tremendous advance over American technology,” the Straits Times reported. “We are too small to have an effect on a huge company like Huawei,” he continued, “whose research is far bigger than the whole of Malaysia’s research capability.” Malaysia has no security concerns about Huawei, he added.
Beyond Huawei, Dr. Mahathir also commented more broadly on U.S. actions against China and provocations in the South China Sea, CNBC reported. China’s rise is undeniable, he said, and attempting to confront it is dangerous. “Sending battleships into the area and carrying out exercises that may result in some strong confrontation” is not a good approach, he said. In fact, he added, such actions could be the spark that leads to war. By pressuring Huawei, and engaging in such actions in the South China Sea, Mahathir stated, the U.S. is only displaying its own weakness. Rather than confront China, he said, the U.S. should try competing with it.
SCIENCE & INFRASTRUCTURE
Researchers Use Comet Science for Making Oxygen from Carbon Dioxide for Space Colonization
May 30 (EIRNS)—A group of scientists has developed a small device that can make molecular oxygen (O₂) from carbon dioxide (CO₂) that can be used aboard spacecraft, space stations, and by colonies on the Moon or Mars. The implications of such a development are obviously far-reaching. The team was led by Dr. Konstantinos P. Giapis, a Professor of Chemical Engineering at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech), and included Yunxi Yao, Philip Shushkov, and Thomas F. Miller III, all of whom work with Giapis at Caltech’s Chemistry and Chemical Engineering Department.
In their statement, released May 24, the team wrote:
“One place molecular oxygen does appear outside of Earth is in the wisps of gas streaming off comets. … Giapis’s research shows that some unusual reactions can occur by providing kinetic energy. When water molecules are shot like extremely tiny bullets onto surfaces containing oxygen, such as sand or rust, the water molecule can rip off that oxygen to produce molecular oxygen. This reaction occurs on comets when water molecules vaporize from the surface and are then accelerated by the solar wind until they crash back into the comet at high speed.
“Comets, however, also emit carbon dioxide (CO₂). Giapis and Yao wanted to test if CO₂ could also produce molecular oxygen in collisions with the comet surface. When they found O₂ in the stream of gases coming off the comet, they wanted to confirm that the reaction was similar to water’s reaction. They designed an experiment to crash CO₂ onto the inert surface of gold foil, which cannot be oxidized and should not produce molecular oxygen. Nonetheless, O₂ continued to be emitted from the gold surface. This meant that both atoms of oxygen come from the same CO₂ molecule, effectively splitting it in an extraordinary manner.”
In an interview today with Athens-Macedonian News Agency, Giapis, who has his degree in chemical engineering from National Technical University in Athens, Greece, explained that the device involves a chemical reaction driven by kinetic energy that “has allowed us to design a small plasma reactor, a portable device for producing oxygen that is the size of a coffee mug, which can function in the low-pressure atmosphere of Mars and utilizes other processes, along with the specific reaction, to produce much more oxygen. This technology is now available for testing and provides a viable alternative for breathing on Mars.”
While the experimental plasma reactor generates just 1 or 2 molecules of O₂ for every 100 molecules of CO₂, Giapis believes that its performance can be improved to produce enough oxygen for astronauts on Mars to breathe.
“Is this the final device? No. Is it a device that could solve the problem on Mars? No. It is, however, a device that can do something very difficult. We can do some crazy things with this reactor,” he told the news agency.
Giapis had previously conducted research into why comets can generate oxygen around them, which led him to focus on chemical reactions driven by kinetic energy rather than by heat. His team found that molecular oxygen can be generated by bombarding a gold sheet at high speeds with carbon dioxide which then breaks apart, releasing oxygen molecules. Functioning like a small particle accelerator, the device converts the carbon dioxide molecules into ions and then accelerates the electrically-charged particles with the help of an electric field, which then strikes a surface at high speed, generating oxygen.
The research was funded by the U.S. National Science Foundation, the Department of Energy, and the Joint Center for Artificial Photosynthesis (JCAP). Giapis published a scientific paper on the devise on May 24 in Nature magazine, in addition to the statement released last week.
