NAFTA Negotiations Resuming without Canada
The North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) is back underway!
Just today, high-level Mexican officials, including representatives of recently elected Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO), travelled to Washington to work on a deal; Canadian officials did not participate.
The trip was triggered after Trump’s comments to “go a much different route” on concluding the NAFTA renegotiations. This could be his suggestion to have two separate bilateral agreements; which has the potential to keep the U.S. out of a regional government scheme, but it must not entangle our alliances.
We must remind President Trump to save America’s independence and sovereignty by staying out of all possible regional “trade” agreements! Securing NAFTA will only bring about a North American Union (NAU), which would emulate the European Union.
A trade deal between Mexico and the United States would be great; but it must avoid establishing power-grabbing, regional government.
