EDITORIAL‘The Future Being Born Today: Integration and Infrastructure’May 30 (EIRNS)—On June 1-3, the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) will convene, hosted by Russian President Vladimir Putin, who was guest of honor two weeks ago at the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation in Beijing, and just yesterday held strategic talks in Paris with President Emmanuel Macron. A preview of the St. Petersburg gathering was given yesterday by TASS, titled, “The Future Being Born Today: Integration and Infrastructure Projects in Eurasia.” It reports on the fact that major configurations of nations are now coming together—the EAEU (Eurasian Economic Union,) the SCO (Shanghai Cooperation Organization,) and the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), plus three nations of the BRICS—to further large-scale projects, carried out with a “global outlook” for the good of all. Specific projects are highlighted, such as the Vostochny Cosmodrome, in which Japan is interested in participating; and the “Eastern Polygon”—the Far East connectivity program involving the Trans-Siberian Railway, the Baikal Amur Mainline, regional border crossings, and ocean ports. The St. Petersburg gathering is now the optimistic “new norm” in Eurasia, led by China and Russia; and the picture is filling out for other parts of the world. Tomorrow in Africa, is the grand launch of the Nairobi-Mombasa Railway, whose 480 km are seen as the first link in the future East Africa-long rail corridor. “Connecting Nations, Prospering People,” is the motto on the locomotives of the new Kenyan line. Oblivious to this reality of global realignment for development—or worse, hating it—are the political forces in motion against its success, mostly deployed out of the depraved British Empire crowd. There is a glaring disconnect between reality and the Atlanticists’ proposals. From Europe come continued attacks on President Trump, and on the American electorate for putting Trump in office, and on Trump’s opposition to green-genocide and NATO geopolitics. In Berlin on Monday, Chancellor Angela Merkel continued the vituperation against the U.S. she had expressed after last week’s G7 meeting. Speaking to a sustainable development conference, she said that she remains a “convinced Atlanticist,” and that the U.S. is not to be trusted; “we Europeans must really take our fate into our own hands,” especially on climate policy. Today, she called for Europe to be “pro-active in international affairs.” German Foreign Minister and Vice-Chancellor Sigmar Gabriel bashed Trump’s “short-sighted” policies, which have “weakened” the West and EU interests. This morning, Trump tweeted back against this, but the context goes way beyond tit for tat. At stake is the existence of the Presidency, the integrity of the U.S. as a nation, and whether it will align—and soon—with the new paradigm of the World Land-Bridge/New Silk Road. The danger and venality of the attacks on Trump are shown in a Spiegel Online article of May 20, “It’s Time To Get Rid of Donald Trump.” Presenting an hysterical rant against Trump (no morals, no goals, no strategy, no brain, etc.), the article reviews how to oust him, referring to the grisly “Game of Thrones.” It calls on the media to “continue to tell things as they are: Trump has to be removed from the White House. Quickly. He is a danger to the world.” Translated, this means that a partnership between the U.S., Russia, and China is recognized as a deadly threat to the British Empire. The truth is, people can be induced to think, and overcome these dirty operations, however incessant and dangerous. We have a lot of special work to do. A big challenge is the New York City transportation breakdown and emergency. Barely six weeks from now, mass chaos is threatened, when, because of urgent repair work, some of the rail service between Manhattan and Long Island and New Jersey must be restricted. This occurs in the context in which the entire infrastructure base of the metropolitan region is decrepit. The LaRouche PAC Manhattan Project is moving on an overview plan, contingencies, and most of all, a call to action nationally to join the world New Silk Road re-alignment. Diane Sare, a New York/New Jersey leader on the LaRouchePAC Policy Committee, has an article in the next, June 2 EIR, ending: “New York City and the contiguous areas have a high density of capable people and potentially capable people, if there were a crash program to train them. These are the questions that the people of the United States need to urgently consider, not whether Jared Kushner had a meeting with the Russian Ambassador (which would probably have been a good idea, at any rate). “LaRouche’s Four Laws provide the parameters for the needed crash program. Now we must assemble a committee of experts who can fill in the details, and by so doing, transform the way that New Yorkers think about the current catastrophe. Remember, in Chinese, the symbol for crisis and opportunity is the same.” NEW WORLD ECONOMIC ORDERRussian Federation Council Welcomes New Silk RoadMay 30 (EIRNS)—Russia-China cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative will accelerate the development of bilateral relations and lead to global changes in Eurasia, said a Russian Senate leader Monday. Valentina Matviyenko, President of the Federation Council, the upper house of the Russian legislature, made remarks at the Third International Conference “Russia-China: Taking On a New Quality of Bilateral Relations,” in Moscow. “The modern world is going through difficult times … we have only one way—to jointly build our future on the basis of justice, equality, respect for national sovereignty, norms of international law, and UN principles,” she said. This approach, shared by Russia and China and supported by an increasing number of other countries, represents a “solid foundation for mutual understanding and cooperation both in the international arena and in bilateral relations.” These annual two-day conferences, gathering high-level officials and thinktankers of both countries for in-depth discussions of all aspects of their relations, are organized by the Russian International Affairs Council and the Russia-China Friendship Society. The description of this year’s conference, as compared to that of 2016, reflects the advances consolidated over the past year around the Belt and Road globally. The alignment of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and the Silk Road Economic Belt was high on the agenda in 2016, but the conference was tasked to discuss “imbalances in the global economic system and Russia’s and China’s recent economic troubles….” Now, in 2017, the same conference’s task was to “build on the results of the ‘Belt and Road’ Forum in Beijing … including culture, education and science,” and “The Arctic as a Prospective Area of Russia-China Interaction,” the “Economic Basis for Russia-China Partnership: New Points of Growth,” “Eurasia as a Region of Multilateral Partnership.” TASS: Eurasian Integration and the New Silk Road Are the FutureMay 30 (EIRNS)—On the eve of the St. Petersburg International Economics Forum (SPIEF), which will take place June 1-3, TASS carries a Business & Economy analysis, “The Future Being Born Today: Integration and Infrastructure Projects in Eurasia,” noting that the interplay and congruence of international organizations like the Silk Road Economic Belt, the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), plus the fact that three BRICS member countries are located there, makes Eurasia a “viable global player.” As for Russia, several large-scale infrastructure projects will serve Eurasian integration, TASS writes: the Power of Siberia gas pipeline to China; the Vostochny Cosmodrome with Japan also having interest in cooperating in it; the Eastern Polygon plan, a multi-modal cooperation between the Trans-Siberia Railway, the Baikal Amur Mainline, and the Far East ports plus border crossings; the Western Europe-Western China Highway, running from the Chinese-Kazakh border to St. Petersburg and on to Europe from there. But “the most ambitious project in Eurasia is China’s Silk Road Economic Belt (SREB) which envisions a joint Eurasian trade and economic space and a transcontinental shipping corridor,” TASS writes. “Together with the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road, SREB is part of the One Belt, One Road initiative in addition to building an interconnected transportation infrastructure network, the project seeks to enhance customs cooperation, boost financial flows between the nations, and create financial institutions for interacting with SCO, BRICS and other regional organizations. “All large-scale projects in Eurasia are carried out with a global outlook and serve to further strategic interests of the countries involved. These initiatives improve competitive positions and performance throughout the entire region and in each individual country.” Peru Meeting: Ucayali Wants That Transcontinental Train!May 30 (EIRNS)—The economists in the province of Ucayali in the Amazonian region of Peru who invited Schiller Institute President Helga Zepp-LaRouche to keynote the national congress of the Economists Association of Peru in November 2016, are organizing hard to get local leaders to join the campaign for the South American transcontinental train route proposed by China that would pass through their region adopted as policy. On May 28, the Amazon Integration Network and the Multisectorial Economic Development Corridor Committee held a forum on “Problems of the Ucayali Region and Alternative Solutions” in the region’s capital, Pucallpa. It was attended by 100 people representing trade unions, professional associations, informal settlements, and other popular leaders from around the region. Presentations were given on the proposed train route and its accompanying development corridor, and the economic revolution which would ensue, including building science and technology research institutes and centers. Participants agreed to a 14-point proposal for action. The first is “To continue to promote and make happen the Northern Route Economic Development Corridor, whose principal component is the Peru-Brazil Bioceanic Train… (now with the inevitable acronym of FETAB: Brazil-Peru Atlantic-Pacific Bioceanic Train). The participants agreed to push their national congressmen to declare the construction of the FETAB “a public necessity in the national interest,” and to publicize the benefits of the FETAB mega-project to all the districts and villages. Industrialization Underpins Egypt-Russia Fight against TerrorismMay 30 (EIRNS)—Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, in his joint press conference yesterday with Egypt’s Foreign Minister Sameh Hassan Shoukry, after the “2+2” talks between both nations’ Foreign and Defense Ministers, reported that the bilateral meeting began with a discussion of political, trade, economic, investment and cultural relations. They presented the priority cooperation areas identified there to Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi. Lavrov identified the projects’ potentials, saying: “The implementation of these projects will move our relations to a fundamentally new, strategic level. I am referring above all to the projects that can boost Egypt’s technological development, such as the construction of Egypt’s first nuclear power plant, and the creation of a Russian industrial estate in Egypt. The implementation of these projects will create new jobs and entire industrial sectors in Egypt, and will also create conditions for training qualified personnel. These and many other issues will be on the agenda of the next meeting of the Joint Russian-Egyptian Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation this autumn.” He also reported that talks on creating “a free trade zone between Egypt and the Eurasian Economic Union” will continue. U.S. POLITICAL AND ECONOMICLying Press Hypes Tiny Total of 10 Resolutions to Impeach Trump!May 30 (EIRNS)—“A growing number of local governments are clamoring for Congress to act against Donald Trump,” passing resolutions calling for his impeachment, the mainstream U.S. press—Newsweek, Politico, etc.—has been ballyhooing this week. Just how many? A grand total of 10 of the United States’ 39,044 local governments. Half of those are in Massachusetts, centered around in left liberal bastions like Boston (Brookline, Cambridge, Amherst, Pelham and Leverett). California (surprise!) is another hotbed of impeachment with Los Angeles, and university towns Alameda and Berkeley. But 17 of the 50 states have resolutions in their state legislatures calling on Congress to reinstate FDR’s Glass-Steagall Act before another crash hits, with the State of Illinois having already passed it, and 16 other states pending. STRATEGIC WAR DANGERLavrov Insists U.S. Threats against Syrian Army Affect Syrian SovereigntyMay 30 (EIRNS)—Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov expressed concern in Moscow today about U.S. military threats against Syrian armed forces operating in Syria, but in the vicinity of U.S.-backed opposition forces. “I believe this situation is rather alarming as it directly affects Syria’s sovereignty. Certainly, these issues need to be solved, and our troops are doing this now,” Lavrov said, reports TASS. Lavrov said that though an effort to use the de-confliction channel between the U.S. and Russian militaries is now being used, this is not enough, and continued, “But of course, the effort would be much more efficient if in addition to the channel, which has a rather limited agenda, the U.S. agreed to join the work on coordinating parameters of de-escalation zones. We are ready to welcome the United States joining not only the attempts to avoid incidents, but also the work to define de-escalation zones.” New Scandal Breaks Out around U.S. THAAD Deployment in South KoreaMay 30 (EIRNS)—A new scandal has erupted around the THAAD anti-missile system deployment in South Korea, amid the “noise” being made about the latest North Korean missile test. According to a report in the Korea Times, the U.S. military moved an additional four THAAD launchers into South Korea without informing the newly elected South Korean President Moon Jae-in. Moon has ordered a full investigation into how these additional launchers were brought in, and described the incident as “very shocking,” according to Yoon Young-chan, the senior secretary for public relations. “Newly appointed National Security Office head Chung Eui-yong reported to Moon that four additional launchers had been transported to Korea, and have been kept at a military base,” Yoon said. “The defense ministry did not mention this when it gave a policy briefing to the presidential advisory committee May 25.” Yoon said Moon confirmed the entry of the four launchers by calling Defense Minister Han Min-koo in person, and said it was “very shocking.” “He ordered Chung and Senior Secretary for Civil Affairs Cho Kuk to thoroughly investigate how the launchers were brought here; who decided on it; why the ministry kept it secret, and why it did not report the fact to the new government,” Yoon said. According to a report in the Korea Herald, the additional four launchers were brought into Korea weeks-to-months ago. The official acknowledgment of the deployment occurred on March 6 when U.S. Forces Korea released imagery showing two launchers being unloaded from a C-17 cargo aircraft. Only two launchers were seen being transported to the former golf course in Seongju, North Gyeongsang Province in mid-April. “One thing that seems certain is that Moon did not receive any briefing on the subject during his visit to the ministry a week after taking office,” reports the Korea Herald. Pentagon spokesman Capt. Jeff Davis denied that there was any subterfuge about the THAAD deployment in comments to reporters today, reports Yonhap. “We continue to work very closely with the Republic of Korea government and we have been very transparent in all of our actions throughout this process,” Davis said. COLLAPSING WESTERN FINANCIAL SYSTEMEuropean Central Bank Head Draghi: QE Won’t StopMay 30 (EIRNS)—Speaking before the Economic and Monetary Affairs Committee of the European Parliament yesterday, ECB President Mario Draghi announced that the ECB has no intention of stopping monthly purchases of €60 billion in junk paper from banks and corporations. The ECB Asset Purchase Program reached a total of €1.834 trillion as of April 30, including €1.5 trillion in sovereign bonds, whereas the rest is composed by asset-backed securities, covered bonds, and corporate bonds. This has prompted some German commentators to write that “Draghi’s successor will inherit a pile of rubble.” Draghi also repeated his demand that “The euro is irreversible, as it is written in the treaties,” in response to a Member of the European Parliament, and that more power be given to the European Commission. “Heterogeneity is the intrinsic fragility of the Monetary Union,” he stated, and proposed to “strengthen the role of the Commission, which could become the main actor in assuring that countries respect a process of evaluation of their reforms.” Who Is Der Spiegel To Moot the Killing of the U.S. President?May 30 (EIRNS)—The Editor-in-Chief of Germany’s Der Spiegel weekly, Klaus Brinkbäumer, published an unhinged editorial two weeks ago, which he signed personally, calling for the media to ensure that the President of the United States, Donald Trump, is “gotten rid of” any way possible, immediately. From its founding in 1947 by a British Army officer working for the British occupation forces, Der Spiegel has served as the voice of British occupation in Germany, a role to which Brinkbäumer demonstrates he remains subservient. The British Empire has clearly become unhinged. Brinkbäumer’s May 20 editorial, published in German and English, is titled “A Danger to the World. It’s Time To Get Rid of Donald Trump.” Brinkbäumer baldly writes that “One of the media’s tasks is to continue telling things as they are: Trump has to be removed from the White House. Quickly. He is a danger to the world.” Why? Other than a string of personal insults (he’s a joke of a man, a child, can’t read, etc.), Trump’s “crime” is that he doesn’t play ball with Brinkbäumer’s masters. Under Trump, “Nothing is regulated, nothing is stable, and the trans-Atlantic relationship hardly exists anymore.” Brinkbäumer suggests “five theoretical solutions” to the Trump threat, all but one of which he suggests will not happen: resignation; impeachment by a Republican-controlled House and Senate; the 25th Amendment; impeachment by a Democrat-controlled House and Senate after the 2018 mid-term elections. His fifth “solution”: “The international community wakes up and finds a way to circumvent the White House and free itself of its dependence on the U.S.,” he calls necessary and doable … but it leaves Trump in office. Then comes the overt death threat, couched in Hollywood terms: “In ‘Game of Thrones,’ the Mad King was murdered (and the child that later took his place was no better),” Brinkbäumer writes. He demurs that “In real life, an immature boy sits on the throne of the most important country in the world,” but insists that the powers-that-be must be unrelenting until Trump is removed. “They cannot succumb to exhaustion because he is so taxing. They ultimately have to send him to his room—and return power to the grownups.” SCIENCE & INFRASTRUCTUREPope Francis Gave a Good Speech at the Genoa Ilva Steel PlantMay 30 (EIRNS)—Pope Francis delivered a major speech at the Ilva steel plant in Genoa last Friday, May 27, focused on the harmony of interests among producers. The long speech was published on the Vatican site only in Italian: However, there are some reports in English, such as by Vatican Radio. Before 3,500 workers, Francis distinguished what he called the “real entrepreneur,” a person who “shares the labors of workers and shares the joys of work” to create something together, from speculators who are not bothered when they fire workers in search of profits. “One sickness of the economy is the gradual transformation of entrepreneurs into speculators,” he said. “The speculator doesn’t love his business, doesn’t love the workers, but only sees the business and workers as the means to make profit.” He decried a political system that “sometimes seems to encourage” speculators, “not those who invest and believe in work.” Francis also denounced those who claim that workers do their jobs only for the money, saying that, that “denies the dignity of work.” It is by working that “our humanity flourishes,” he argued. He even quoted Genesis 1:28 (“Be fruitful and multiply, fill the Earth and subdue it.”) He told workers and unemployed that people must not resign themselves to “an ideology taking root everywhere that imagines a world where only half, or maybe two-thirds, of the workers will work and the others will be maintained by a social welfare check.” Francis was speaking in front of workers and managers of the largest Italian steel company, Ilva, which has been hit by a severe crisis, especially because the environmentalist inquisition has severely reduced production in its plant in Taranto, the largest steel plant in Europe. Currently Ilva is being sold to the British-Indian ArcelorMittal group. Thus, Francis’s words in Genoa are welcome and useful—especially because they are on the same wavelength as the “American System” idea evoked by Trump—but the Devil who wrote his green fascist encyclical Laudato Sí must be killed forever and not just temporarily put to sleep. |
