Rep. Tulsi Gabbard: Stop Illegal War against the Syrian Government!

Nov. 17 (EIRNS)—Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D-HI), an Iraq war veteran, emphatically demanded an end to Obama’s illegal war in Syria.

Speaking on CNN’s “The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer,” Gabbard said, “The cause of this humanitarian crisis, the cause of these refugees, the cause of the chaos on the ground in Syria is the fact that the United States, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and these other countries have been arming these forces, and waging this war to overthrow the Syrian government of Assad. This is an illegal war. It is counterproductive. It has only worked over the years, as we are seeing now today, to strengthen our enemies, to strengthen ISIS, to strengthen al-Qaeda, as it’s helped them to obtain their objective.”

“So what do you want the President to do?” Blitzer asked.

“Number 1, stop this illegal, counterproductive war to overthrow Assad…. It’s illegal because Congress has not, the American people have not, declared war against this sovereign Syrian government of Assad. It’s counterproductive because it is working for the exact same objective as ISIS, al-Qaeda, and these other Islamist extremist groups are trying to achieve,” said Gabbard. She said Obama should “Absolutely not” send U.S. troops to Syria, but instead “Work with our partners on the ground, use our air assets… [and] Adequately and appropriately arm the Kurds, for example, with the equipment they need….”
