End Partisan Gerrymandering Before Next Major Election

PLEASE DONATE TODAY >> We must end partisan gerrymandering before 2020 — and Common Cause has a plan to do it. With your generous support, we will make it happen.
Donate now!Dear patty,

We have a once-in-a-generation opportunity to end partisan gerrymandering, in every state, for good. But if we’re serious about making that happen, we need to get to work right now — BEFORE new districts are drawn in 2020.

Our lawsuit, Common Cause v. Rucho, could end partisan gerrymandering nationwide. And our meticulous state-by-state grassroots organizing to pass impartial redistricting reform will keep making progress in the meantime. But we can only do that if generous supporters like you step up in a big way.

Common Cause is fighting gerrymandering in the courts, in legislatures, and through ballot initiatives. Please donate today to help end gerrymandering once and for all.

Voters should choose their politicians, not the other way around. That’s a principle we can all Americans agree with — and it’s winning in court case after court case too.

Earlier this year, a district court found Texas’ hopelessly gerrymandered congressional districts to be racially discriminatory. And in state after state, from Wisconsin to Virginia, courts are ordering state lawmakers back to the drawing board to draw fairer districts.

Meanwhile, our Common Cause v. Rucho lawsuit against the North Carolina Republican Party could, if it reaches the Supreme Court, have partisan gerrymandering declared unconstitutional in all 50 states.

We know what happens when we let politicians control the redistricting process. They draw “safe” districts so they don’t have to be accountable to their voters. They pack districts to deny people of color fair representation. And they deny us all our constitutional right to a meaningful choice when we select our representatives.

Our window of opportunity is closing quickly — unless we step up our efforts NOW, the legislative districts states drawn after the 2020 Census will be just as gerrymandered as the ones from 2010, and we’ll have to fight costly legal battles to fix them one-by-one for the next 10 years.

I know there’s a better way forward, but it depends on your generous support. Please donate today and help us put an end to political gerrymandering.

Only Common Cause can lead this fight — we have the legal expertise to propose lasting nonpartisan solutions, and the proven record of state-by-state grassroots organizing to put them in place.

Wherever politicians try and rig the rules in their own favor or deny voters a meaningful choice, we’ll fight back — whether that means taking on Democrats, like we are in Maryland and Illinois, or Republicans, in North Carolina, Texas, and Georgia.

We’ll keep pressing for impartial redistricting reforms in states like Ohio and Michigan, to make sure people — and not politicians — control the process. And we’ll keep pushing Common Cause v. Rucho in North Carolina all the way to the Supreme Court to end partisan gerrymandering nationwide.

It all depends on you. Can you please step up and support Common Cause’s efforts to end gerrymandering? Please make a generous donation today.

More and more Americans are waking up to the fact that partisan gerrymandering has no place in a modern democracy. It’s time to end it once and for all — and together, I know we can.

Thanks for all you do,

Robert Reich, Board Chair
and the team at Common Cause
