URGENT ACTION: Stop the Trump-Dow MergerDear Patty,Today, I’m at an Environmental Protection Agency meeting where the companies that sell toxic pesticides have been invited to decide which regulations to get rid of. I’m there in protest, to tell the EPA’s Office of Pesticide Programs to preserve the laws Congress passed to protect human health. I need you to back me up. With America’s first billionaire president at the helm, corporations have an unprecedented opportunity to merge their power with Trump’s—and to ultimately establish a fascist state. As U.S. Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.) warned, while Trump is president, the various checks and balances of the American system must do their part to check Trump and corporate influence. “If it fails, then this could be Mussolini time in America, and that would not be good,” Whitehouse said. On the “that would not be good” side is Dow Chemical. The poison-peddler wasted no time wooing Trump—it ponied up $1 million for the new president’s inauguration festivities. Trump swiftly rewarded Dow by naming CEO Andrew Liveris to head a new White House manufacturing working group reminiscent of Mussolini’s National Council of Corporations. In February, after Trump signed an executive order aimed at rolling back regulations, he handed the pen to Liveris. Fitting, given that Trump’s new EPA chief, Scott Pruitt, was quick to overturn the Obama administration’s proposed ban on one of Dow’s moneymakers—chlorpyrifos, an organophosphate pesticide known to lower I.Q.s and cause neurological damage in children. Now, it seems, just banning organophosphates isn’t enough. Dow wants Trump to throw out the EPA’s own studies on the dangerous effects of chlorpyrifos and other organophosphates. Thank you!
