Activism: Make This Call!

The toxic chemical BPA was found in the lining of one out of three store brand food cans tested from Kroger and its subsidiaries in a brand new report we’re co-releasing today.

This is an improvement as our testing last year found BPA in 62% of Kroger cans tested. There’s no doubt that Kroger has taken note of the 150,000 petition signatures it received from consumers like you after those results came out.

But one out of three or 33% is still way too high. BPA is a hormone-disrupting chemical that can be harmful at incredibly low levels of exposure. It has been linked to breast and prostate cancer, infertility, and type-2 diabetes. BPA shouldn’t be in any of the cans on store shelves and Kroger is the largest American grocery chain.

TAKE ACTION: Will you take a minute to call Kroger customer service?

1. Call (800) 576-4377

2. You can use these talking points:

  • I’m calling about the toxic chemical bisphenol A (BPA) in your canned food. I just learned that a new study found BPA in the lining of 33% of Kroger store brand products tested.
  • BPA is a hormone-disrupting chemical linked to breast and prostate cancer, infertility, and type-2 diabetes.
  • I want to trust that the products I buy from your company don’t contain harmful chemicals like BPA.
  • Please eliminate this toxic chemical in your food cans and use safe substitutes.
  • Please also develop a comprehensive policy to promote safer chemicals in ALL your products. Kroger should be a leader on this important issue. Thank you!

Of course – feel free to put this in your own words.  Speak from the heart – tell them why this matters to you.

3. Tell us that you made a call. Just reply to this email and let us know how it went!

You can read my blog post about the report we co-released today with our coalition partners the Center for Environmental Health to learn more.

Thanks for all you do!

Best, Mike.
